woah time flies. I’m listening back to a video I made and will transcribe what I predicted about 2024 and see if I was right or wrong. And make more predictions
- they will print 151 into the ground (they slow walked minor reprints)
- they will make a “psudeo-spin off game” like Legend: Arceus (Legends ZA announced)
- They will make something like pokemon GO or Pokemon Sleep( Pokemon Pocket was released)
- new physical pokemon center stores outside japan
I don’t remember if they did this or announced anything - they won’t do a gen 5 remake in 2024
- they will put all the gameboy games on switch(that makes too much sense)
What will happen this year?
- they don’t touch any controversy around the card game at all. I think that is pretty obvious. Its supposed to be an advertisement really, its not actually any sort of real touching base with fans sort of event. They will remain aloof in the video.
- they will boast about the success of pokemon pocket
- they will tell us a release season for ZA, and give us a plot summary. It will be a switch title and not a NuSwitch title
- They won’t show us anything TCG related except to say that they look forward to the worlds in California
- At the end of the video they will tease a generation 5 remake, and everyone will be afraid that it will end up just as bad if not minimally better than the BDSP disaster.
- They’ll spend an inordinate amount of time on the failed game that nobody likes called pokemon master or whatever its called. Everyone always get duped thinking they are announcing some cool new thing, but no. They just give an insane budget to animation and trailers for that trash. It gets more budget than the mainline games. I’m only slightly bitter…
wild speculation time
- pokemon announce that they are going to end PTCGL because pokemon pocket came out, and all future code cards will be for pocket, and additionally, all regions packs will now also have code cards for pocket. To everyone’s massive confusion.
- they will announce a pokemon card set based around the pokemon sleep app. It will get memed on, but then ironically actually be a slappin’ set. And people will remember how much we all liked the sleepytime alt arts in sword/shield
- they will announce the pokemon game I always wanted, a true pokemon yellow spiritual successor. The anime game. You are explicitly playing Ash, Gary is your rival, he has the car with babes that cheerleader him everywhere he goes. Ash’s mom keeps calling and tell us to remember to pack clean underwear. Team rocket blasts off after you defeat them. Brock and Misty follow on the adventure. This gives them the excuse to have double battles, and perhaps even triple battles again, not that the switch can handle the bloated coding of gamefreak to show 6 pokemon on screen and trainers. Giovanni will get BTFO’d by mewtwo. We will actually see officer Jenny in the games.
- They will announce the gen 6 gen 3 remake remake. We will get omega omega ruby and alpha alpha sapphire.
- A new pokemon ranger game
- They will make a part of the direct where there is a gag that team rocket is taking over the broadcast and announcing their take over, and stealing resources to make their own pokemon game, and that they will entice giovanni to come back. 2025 will be the year of team rocket. We will get a bunch of team rocket cards, a game, merchandise and some sort of limited animated series following various members of team rocket, and the return of butch and cassidy. We will even get them in card form.
- the pokemon company will announce they are formally suing akabane and the Lotus card shop
- They will create a true to scale statue of both deoxys and rayquaza and launch them into orbit as a marketing stunt. Sponsored by redbull. We will get two limited time redbull flavors. Sour green apple for raquaza. Sour cherry berry for deoxys. they will include redeemable codes for special promo cards in pokemon pocket and space themed incense for pokemon GO.
I had another wacky prediction but I can’t remember now.

Fine by me, I’ll wait six years. As long as they print those Pocket alt arts eventually, since some of very good, and some Pokémon doesn’t even have a physical alt art yet… 
As for a prediction: maybe another art set? We had the Munch and Van Gogh artworks, so which famous paint-style is next? Maybe Picasso-style Pokémon artworks?

Well, it might take longer for them to figure out how to create non-euclidian space so that you can view into a space inside the card. Don’t drop anything inside the cards…

This thread always gets me excited, the ideas people have and the endless amazing things they could do. In reality it’ll be 18 mins of stuff nobody really cares about, followed by 2 mins of teasers for new games.

the amount of time they give to pokemon cafe, pokemon masters, pokemon unite and pokemon sleep the last couple of years has been astounding.

Off-topic, but 3D type of cards would be cool. Like maybe lenticular 3D or ghost rare type of 3D effect. 
Not the kind of 3D you meant with your futuristic cards, although I guess a bottomless mirror effect could be made on thick cards as well. 
Anyway, considering we haven’t seen these amazing alt arts from 2021 either, I doubt we’ll see the Pocket artworks anytime soon if at all… We can keep hoping, though.

Here is my crazy prediction: DLC for BDSP. Out of nowhere we got gen 4 in pocket and we have legends already so I think they might milk switch content a bit more by adding DLC to carry us over to switch two

I was thinking Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee had come out too recently for another gen 1 remake. But then I realized 2018 was SEVEN years ago. Yikes.
To put that into perspective the time between Red and Blue to FireRed and LeafGreen was only 5 years in North America.

My irresponsibly optimistic prediction is Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky DX, along with a mystery dungeon themed tcg set (spanning all of the games) as a simultaneous release.

A live announcement with senior Pokemon Company execs, including:
- A solemn yet sincere abasement and ritual sacrifice of Akabane by senior executives
- Announcement of skyrim-type pokemon RPG that has been in skunk-works development for 5 years; pre-orders get the lopunny modpack for free
- Announcement of first official pokemon game app, and another apology for killing the gameboy line of consoles
- Re-release of all e-series cards, faithful down to the atomic makeup of the cardstock
