My most recent purchase is a Korean base set Mewtwo promo which I’m really happy with. Afaik it’s the only WOTC/Base set promo to come out in Korean. They’re quite rare too!
I really like the TOMY toys and scratch cards but it’s so hard to find these in near mint condition so I bought a pack and opened it
That picture looks familiar… I feel like you’re the one who outbid me yesterday. Awesome pickups nonetheless!
I’m innocent! I just did a BIN, no auction
@zorloth after chatting about CGC 9.5s I decided to put my money where my mouth was and picked this up for what seemed like a very reasonable price

Geez talk about a perfect colorway. Beautiful card
@candle, wow! stunning card! Unseen Forces reverse holos are easily (along the Emerald) the best reverse holos from the entire era. Great buy .

Woah that’s neat! I wonder if he’s only collecting that specific art, or if the one I have from Taiwan is also on his radar
I have no idea why the Taiwanese one has the regular set art. At first I thought it was counterfeit but it’s legit from inspecting my copy.

I find it so funny now that people have gotten into these when they were barely worth a dime it seemed a few years ago. I still remember how I gave out a bunch of fresh packs to a vendor one time because they helped me out with a few deals. The vendor’s girlfriend particularly loved Tomy Scratch cards.
I was gonna pass on this listing, but then I noticed something was missing. This is amazingly my first graded Jungle card as well.

I do really like CGC’s slab. For some cards, it’s really nice to have that option, I think.
After opening 213 packs of Shining Fates I bought Shining Charizard, Suicune and Skyla.
Trying to stay ever so slightly ahead of the curve on telephone cards, I recently picked up these two:
I knew these were rare when I picked them up, but I didn’t really know much information about them until yesterday - huge thanks to @minorkey for pointing me in the right direction.
Turns out these were a limited edition print distributed lottery-style in the September 1997 issue of CoroCoro Comic to commemorate 2 million sales of the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga series. Page 456 (i.imgur.com/Fm9ldMQ.png) outlines that 100 people would win the telephone cards, and the appendix from the magazine (which unfortunately I don’t have a great picture of yet) seems to imply that 50 of those 100 would win one of the designs and the other 50 would win the other design.
Unless these were also included in another promotion at the time, only 50 copies of each of those two telephone cards are currently believed to exist, possibly making these the rarest Pokémon telephone cards to have ever been released.
If anyone has a copy of the September 1997 issue of CoroCoro Comic with the insert still in-tact I’d love to see some decent quality pictures of the piece about the promotion - it’s in the bottom right quarter of one of the pages which shows colour pictures of both designs.

So glad they went with Pikachu instead of Clefairy.
@eyesofmadara it’s really interesting, isn’t it? Clefairy played a big part in the early manga and Venusaur and Blastoise seem to appear a lot more often than Charizard does. I think it possibly shows the effect the western world had on Pokémon in general. I’ve started wondering recently if the reason Pichu was thrust into the limelight in 2000/2001 was because they were toying with the idea of Pichu becoming the new mascot - for my sake I’m glad that didn’t happen.
It’s a shame they didn’t turn some of the other covers into telephone cards as well, I would have very much liked this one:
Very happy with this addition!
Only 10 PSA 5s in the pop and I’m guessing no one else in the world was looking for it but me, so I was worried one would never make it to Ebay.
Only one away from my PSA 1-10 set! Probably gonna have to grade for that 4 myself… unless someone here has it??
