Had to check back to my prior goals post from 1-23-18.
2018 was a big year and saw me finish my short term and long term goals listed above. I obtained 12, 30 and 50 card displays that I am happy with, but still need to find good locations for display and get them hung.
2018 also saw me open ex Holon Phantoms, my final box needed to have opened every English box released less 1st base which was a major collection goal from 2014 in my re entry into the hobby. I even completed my Gold Star PSA 9 set as well as old school ex set in PSA 9. My ultimate goal there is to have all English slave… er set cards ever printed in Mint+ condition, with those worth grading being graded in PSA 9 or 10 (mostly 9). I have completed it with only a dozen or two binder filler cards that I am not happy with and in need of upgrading.
2018 saw me buy a few massive collections the likes of which I thought I’d never be spending on Pokemon, and so having worked through prior backlog I now have loads more new backlog to process.
Current short term goals - Complete Lv X., LEGEND, BW Secret Rares, Prime, Call of Legend Shiny all in PSA 9. Upgrade all needed BW/XY era full arts that I’m not happy with calling them mint+. Again, I have all the cards it is just a matter of getting them graded and a few upgrades here and there.
Long term: Keep up on Japanese promo releases. I have recently decided to dip my toes into it and I enjoy the red’s pikachu and munch promos I’ve bought so far. I also want to become more educated on older Japanese promos and pick up those which pique my interest.
Longer term: Definitely further pursue the trophy game
Not expecting to achieve all of these but they’re each something to aim towards .
General:
Need to do some collection maintenance to start. Make a dedicated log of cards, costs, dates etc. Go through and consider parting with pieces that don’t hold the same appeal they once had; duplicates, sealed, random cards etc. Be more active on IG and E4. Explore Japanese cards some more.
Specific:
Expand raw collection: fan club karp, crystal celebi, Japanese crystals (possibly)
Mini collections: foreign shining zards, foreign GS Mews, foreign 1st ed Gyarados(, cubone, cradily, bulba collections?)
Long term: Get Arita signing pile done, 1999 Tropical Beach, Uni karp (lesser aim), work on 1st ed OR shadowless holo set, PSA 10 GS Mew, PSA unltd Mew. Consider binder sets
1: Completing my Japanese Eevee collection
2: Starting my Vaporeon English/Japanese collection
Change of plans: I think i might limit myself to only collect Eevee and Leafeon Cards (my favorite Eeveelution) and Clear cards as a side collection. I do like the other Eeveelutions too but i think i will stick with my favorites for now! Happy Poke-Hunting and Best 2019 wishes
The rumble card has come up on the Japanese auctions once at least, within the last few months, if I remember correctly, but they do seem to be quite highly priced, haha ^^’
I really like the artwork on the 189/BW-P promo, as well as the Fan Club promo, loving the hint towards its evolutions behind Eevee
Best of luck getting the cards you want and need for the collection! Always fun to follow how people are doing when they try to aquire a certain set, or follow the progress towards some sort of completion that they may have set themselves.
I’m hoping 2019 turns out to be an amazing year for me and my collecting. I’ll be transitioning careers in the next month or two and almost doubling my salary then between our tax return and another lump sum from leaving my current job my wife and I will be paying off enough debt to save us almost $800 a month! I’d like to at least complete the southern islands set in psa 9 english and japanese and pick up a sealed set of each as well! Then I want to start on some of my favorites species, blastoise, houndoom, suicune and celebi mainly
just a small update on my collection goal of completing the english base set master set( all 5 holo sets and all four non holo sets)
I have now completed shadowless
i am 3 away from unlimited
i am now 1 away from 4th print
and the have now completed the rares on shadowless 1st edition so not bad going one month in
Perhaps the galaxy foil unlimited? I can’t remember where I heard of this set. Probably deep in a thread here. Not sure if it actually exists unless it’s just in a different language
I’d love to complete a PSA 9 Reverse Crystal set over the course of the year!
I recently started the set by picking up a Crobat and Celebi. Initially I was really not too fond of reverse holos at all, but after seeing some of the E-series reverses in person, that completely changed. I wanted to set a realistic goal of some sorts and include some in my collection, without having to collect 100s of cards. So hence the decision to chase a set of Reverse Crystals, as I’ve always loved the Crystals as a sub set in the first place.
For now slowly get back into the swing of things and update myself with stuff I missed during my trip of self discovery, just kidding no self discovery happened.
