A few years back I recently got back in the collecting Pokémon game thanks to the hype of Pokémon Go.
For me it’s about the nostalgic in collecting the old Wotc era artwork.
I started on Mint English Crystal Pokémon. However now I tend to stick to collecting Japanese Gem Mint gradded Holo cards from before 2000. And the Japanese newest special boxes from 2014 or so (I.e Pikachu Cosplay etc). The Japanese set cards tend to be a lot cheaper than their English equivalents which is why I’ve chosen Japanese.
I’ve always got my eye though on bargain English rare set cards such as Gold stars etc when they pop up.
Ungraded and on the cheaper side, I tends to collect Rainbow/Secret Rares from the Sun and Moon era. All I can say is I cannot wait for SM to end due to the amount of RR/SR they release in each set. Now I’ve started I cannot stop until I finish owning each RR/SR from SM era.
Great job on the Bulbasaur collection, not many people end up getting the thin stamp variant of 1st ed base as they’re so hard to find, also can unlimited Korean Bulbasaur be found in a theme deck? or can it only be found in a booster?
Thanks, I managed to get it a few weeks into starting the bulbasaur collection so I got pretty lucky. I recently got the unlimited Korean for Gary IIRC but I think it can be obtained from the theme deck but they run $200ish on ebay last time I checked.
I collect everything and anything ex Dragon Frontiers (pref not graded)
Then a few pokemon specific collections and ex dragon reverse marshtomps and ‘bulk’ ex cards
I collect everything in italian language, from yugioh to pokemon and I love both in the same way. But I occasionally collect also movie posters, star wars’ memorabilia and all the things that remind me to my childhood.
It’s been a while for this postbut I am a collector of many fun facets!
I collect niche items, from Art Academy, Chinese Legend Maker, VS Series 2001, etc… Oddities with some neat history behind them! Aside from that, I collect Pokemon Center Merchandise (typically limited edition/exclusives) and anything with Rotom on it
I haven’t bought a card for my collection in the past 6 months although, I follow tons on eBay and keep track of prices so I can jump right in when I want to when prices are right (or that one card pops up). I have totally put completing my Dutch Base Sets (1st and Ultd) on hold for now (or forever). The new set giving a few more Venusaurs also makes me happy, sadly it’s again a bunch of ugly Full Art/Secret Rare art that gonna fill up a page in the binder.
My primary collection I have been focusing on lately is my games collection and mostly thinning that down. In the past 6-8 months I have been selling games, consoles and accessories I had stored in generic cardboard boxes on the attic, in the back of the linen closet or under my bed in those plastic bins. I have gathered to many of them over the years and I haven’t touched my Xbox One to play an actual game on in like forever.
Jumping from temp job to temp job doesn’t really help securing the future plans so it just also makes me feel better not to get stuck in the past with stuff I own but don’t use, haven’t used or haven’t been interested in and use those things to make sure I can survive the dry moments while between jobs.
im pretty much up to date, having most of them at 95% or higher. Got an entire shelf filled with binders. There are some cards like gold stars and crystals that arent inside the binders but on PSA cases; same with shinings and 1st Edition Base Set PSA9’s.
It takes time, but the hunt is worth it. ill upload a picture later when im back home from work.
I enjoy collecting niche items. Anything that gives me something to chase after, or constantly be on the lookout due to its rarity. Makes it that much sweeter when I finally obtain an item that meets that description
I collect a bit of everything and don’t want to artificially limit my collection. This paragraph was a jumbled mess the first time I tried posting, so I’m changing it to list format.
WOTC unlimited cards in one binder and WOTC 1st ed in another. Mixed sets and rarities.
Working on a complete set of 1st edition base in PSA (including common and uncommon). Already completed the PSA 9 base unlimited set.
Buy lots of single PSA cards that I happen to like. This can include Japanese and English promos.
Lots of new product openings. I visit Target weekly and pick up blister packs and elite trainer boxes. I’ve graded quite a few modern pulls. But the majority of ‘GX or better’ goes into binders.
Vintage pack openings from ebay. Good pulls go to binder or graded.
Random cards that tickle my fancy from local comic book or card shops.
Thousands and thousands of bulk cards (included reverse foils) go to cardboard storage boxes and collect dust.
Magic - over the past several months, I have been almost exclusively buying BGS Alpha cards in 9 or better.
Non Pokemon - Simpsons 1993 Skybox, WWE Relic Cards, TV and Movie Cards (Smallville, Game of Thrones, Veronica Mars, other Simpsons Sets)
I was using standard 3 ring binders with the removable sleeves, but have been transferring everything over to BCW Pro-Folio LX side loading binders because there is no chance for 'binder-ring dings", they look nicer, and better prevent dust.
I was holding on to sealed product, but decided to sell it and open the rest and focus on cards rather than boxes. My will power is too weak and it takes up too much space.
