For me this Golbat from Team Rocket is very nostalgic in that no one wanted to pull it back in the day and all copies were completely mistreated, meaning my image of this card is a card that was pretty much always destroyed.
Having a clean copy of it therefore feels awesome and unreal. I also really appreciate the art now, and the fact that it is a holo Golbat which feels weird now.
I’m a huge fan of this chunky pink oval. Early Yuka Morii feels very “plasticky” and kinda look like CGI sometimes, but it’s incredibly charming: I’ve loved this card since I was a kid
This is one of my favorite cards in the hobby, one of Ken Sugimori’s best imo
This card features Misty’s Golduck who was never part of her team, however psyduck was a very prominent part of her team so to me this card shows Misty’s growth as a trainer along side the growth of her pokemon.
Without a doubt its Dark Raichu from Team Rocket (one of my favourite cards ever).
There are many weird things about this card!
WOTC actually created Dark Raichu, It was made for English and was the first Secret Rare card in the TCG.
Its creation delayed the release of the Team Rocket set by 3 months.
As usual with a lot of WOTC cards, the card has design errors. “Put Raichu on the” should read “Put Dark Raichu on the”. This was fixed on the later reprinted legendary collection copy.
Exactly, it’s also cool to me how most magneton holos are quite different in terms of art style and it showcases how each artist portrays this silly pokemon!
Magneton seems like a contender for weirdest recurring wotc holo Pokemon and Skyridge H18 takes the cake for me. Love how surreal the artwork is in this one. Kusajima was given a lot of creative freedom to be able to play around with the size of Magneton and the Poke-balls, as well as the perspective.
