What is your favourite 'weird' WotC holo

Very curious artwork, I agree. Also, I wonder what’s the lore behind those big metallic pokeballs/orbs, because they seem to appear in other artworks as well. So definitely there was some kind of art direction input here.

This one is weird in that you basically cant see the holo unless you look at the right angle.

I have noticed some printings have the holo pop more, but thats not saying much

My mom ran a deck with this card in it. It kind of wrecked. It would be fun to make a proxy deck and play the old legacy formats.

Although green is my favorite color, I like dark blue holo cards for some reason.

Might also be the reason why I like this (non-WotC) Sharpedo so much:

And although technically not WotC since it’s Japanese, it was released during the WotC period, so I can’t not mention the holo version of my favorite TCG artwork:

I love this card. It reminds me of childhood and the anime. Fun fact, it was the first rare holo to include two Pokemon in one illustration. People only seem to enjoy it because of conditional rarity (low pop PSA 10s).

Saw the Topic and immediately thought Holo Dark Weezing. I love how unholo it is! That’s a phenomenal binder you’ve got.

Love that one as well.

I couldn’t resist to buy more too haha.

I’m amazed how the price of this has stayed so low throughout all the recent booms. As you say, the first true Secret rare, and it’s a Pikachu evolution, with the cool Team Rocket nostalgia.

If you want to get technical a Magneton is just 3 Magnemite linked together by a strong magnetic force.

And Bellossom is before Heracross in the set list.

But you’re right that Heracross is the first rare set card holo to feature two separate species of Pokemon.

The orbs and all of the “ring of orbs” imagery are from one of the movies. Check out this post, it’s a really fun read, with some excellent detective work.

Looks like Kusajima toyed around with the reflections of Miracle Sphere, the evening horizon and Magneton’s position to create the impression of a PokéBall

There are 3 Miracle Sphere (α β γ) Technical Machine cards in the Mysterious Mountains half of Skyridge. I imagine their mechanic is related to Crystal Charizard, Crystal Crobat and Crystal Celebi

First holo (tho in JP) that I pulled from my first pack.

My favorite weird holo I take to mean an odd card that many don’t think about. I love Dark Hypno. My second pull, and definitely a favorite for the sick ass design and how it plays with the holo patterns.

There actually was a copy of this card (PSA 10) on Ebay with a swirl exactly in the green eye.
