Welcome to the Question of the DDK!
The Question of the DDK is a way to facilitate community disc- Oh, I can’t use that line or it will incur the wrath of an angry Ampharos.
With the market being insanely hot right now, many longtime collectors have decided to sell off large portions of their collections. It got me thinking, if you hypothetically had to sell off everything except for 6 cards now, which ones would you keep?
I chose 6 as that’s the number of Pokémon a trainer can carry at any time in both the video games and anime and felt this would be a fun topic to get people to think about which cards are the most important to them. These may not necessarily be the most expensive cards one owns, but perhaps something from your childhood, a card tied to a fond memory or one with rich history behind its creation.
I’ll start us off:

English and Japanese are the two language I collect so I wanted to have an even mix of both.
Team Rocket was my favorite set growing up, so I would want to keep a card to remember a piece of that. I picked Dark Charizard as it was the chase of the set and I still remember being wowed by the “edgy” depiction of it when I saw it on the playground in elementary school.
Neo Discovery Espeon was the first graded card I ever purchased, so I treat it as my “starter”. It’s one of Nishida’s best artworks and my favorite Eeveelution, so I could never part with it.
Skyridge became my favorite set of all time after I got back into collecting as an adult and the Crystal Celebi was a huge milestone for me to acquire. It’s my favorite depiction of this mythical and symbolizes the e-series that I’ve come to love collecting.
The 7000 points PLAY Mew ex is here for a variety of reasons. I kept it to remember the ex era that I’ve been collecting, the artwork is incredibly nostalgic, harkening back to the final stage in Pokémon Snap, and it’s a nifty prize card.
Fan Club Eevee was a card that I had been chasing for years. The history behind it is really cool, it’s genuinely a decently rare card, and the background artwork with Vaporeon, Flareon and Jolteon just brings back memories of first obtaining Eevee from the roof of Celadon city and having to make the decision of what to evolve into.
Finally, CoroCoro Illusion’s Zoroark is here because I would want to keep at least one card where only a few hundred copies exist period. Ho-oh is also my all-time favorite Pokémon and I love the illustration because it captures a child’s imagination in the purest form, which is how I felt when I saw the golden phoenix at the end of the anime’s first episode.
Looking forward to seeing what other members would choose as their final team of six!
