What else do you collect besides Pokémon?

My collecting tendencies have always wandered quite a bit. Pokemon was definitely first, but watches, coins, and records all get some attention too. I can get sucked into collecting anything if I start to read about it. I love stuff that has a story. Or at least leads me to a story…

I used to collect a toy line called dragonball figurats. These aren’t mine but at one point I had about 50 of them. They’re. 5-6 inch scale. Very cool but take up too much room and was too much to keep up.

It’s not something I’ve set out to collect, but I have a lot of whisky and cognac due to buying more quickly than I drink it.

Here are some of the bottles I have:

Sealed N64 games! I once had a full N64 CIB set, but I have since sold that and have moved towards collecting a sealed set of N64 games.

I have also sold the majority of my TCG and moved them towards sealed Pokémon games. I will likely move back to TCG but plan to focus on more quality over quantity.

I have a small and very specific collection of stuff related to my favorite plane that never took off: The Dornier 728. I even (unsuccessfully) asked the German Aerospace Center to visit the only completed prototype, maybe one day!

Whoa that just awakened an old memory. I played the second one after picking it up on sale as a kid. We didn’t have internet so I never got to play with other folks but I LOVED playing through the levels and getting some cool items. The difficulty level definitely jumped at some point playing alone and I eventually moved on to other games.

I collect manga and Yu-Gi-Oh cards! I also collect Godzilla movies, pretty sure I have them all on Blu-Ray.

That’s amazing!!
Yeah, I played a lot offline when I was a kid too as online was so expensive for both Dreamcast & later Gamecube. I only discovered online servers in my late teens on PC. Private servers are still active today with regular updates which is crazy!

There are a few card releases in which you might possibly recognise some of the characters?

I collect the work of Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. It’s a pretty similar process to Pokemon cards (setting up ebay alerts, browsing yahoo jp, visiting irl shops), and there are “sets” in the form of different diffusion lines and their yearly winter/spring collections. It’s on my todo to get better at documenting my collection but here’s some cool things I bought recently:

2004 Heroes T-shirt from an early Y-3 collection. Features the work of illustrator Saeko Tsumura who 's worked on a lot of Yohji’s most coveted items:

2011 coat with leather collar detail

2001 Wool suit w/ mandarin collar - super cozy and warm

Deck of playing cards given as a gift when purchasing in Japan:

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I have this collection. Aka my Shrek Shrine. What started as a drunken night buying a couple sealed shrek tapes has turned into this monster. Mostly all sealed copies, and lots and lots of cool extras!
