This card not only has a fantastic artwork but it also manages to instantly transport me back to Hoenn and makes me remember the first time as a teenager when I tried to find a Feebas tile on Route 119.

This card has really moved to a kind of centerpiece in my collection—I initially bought it mostly just because l thought it was significant in terms of full art cards and marking the Anniversary, but it is such a stunning card in person. The silver really looks like polished metal against the matte silver. Cool pose, too, and Japanese exclusive special release which always appeals to the degen in me.

Amazing card. Saw one raw NM in a Tokyo display case for 10k Yen in 2016. I even took a photo of it. But 10k Yen was a lot for a single card in the hobby at that time, so i left it behind…I get a pang of jealously every time I see one posted these days!

Appreciating a simple card today - reverse holo Taillow from EX Ruby & Sapphire.
I love the simplicity of the illustration here! The water color is super well done and the composition with the flock of Taillow in the background is neither too plain nor too busy. The mirror/rainbow holofoil is pretty neat but prone to scratching, my copy isn’t too bad here.
I love Kagemaru Himeno’s early work (Gen I through late Gen II/early Gen IV) before the style change to be more cutesy with more exaggerated lighting (seriously, they developed a thing for lens flares during Gen IV that would impress JJ Abrams and Michael Bay). I wish that they’d go back to their early roots like on this card and Jungle Pidgeot and Holon Phantoms Flygon.

This Poliwhirl is a great card! Ever since seeing this artwork I’ve always been hooked. I really like the associated Poliwrath and Politoed as well.

Yesterday I posted a bird pokemon as illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno and today I’ll post another - reverse holo Pidgeot from Legendary Collection.
This card was originally printed in Jungle as a holo rare with “starlight” holofoil and as a non-holo and then it was reprinted again as a holo rare with “cosmos” holofoil in Base Set 2. The normal version of this card in Legendary Collection is a non-holo.
As I stated before, I love the soft water color style of Himeno’s early work and this card is probably my favorite of their entire portfolio - Pidgeot’s pose is dynamic, the linework is bold, and the colors are simple but effective; Pidgeot look straight out of a comic book.
The foil pattern used for Legendary Collection’s parallel set / reverse holofoil cards is pretty cool but I definitely cannot see it working on top of the actual card it due to how busy it is. It was wise to only use this behind the text area of the cards.
