What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

You would be surprised by what cards sell and how much over market price they sell for. It is better to have a card listed 2-5x than not listed at all. Sometimes (many times) card sell for much more than expected. A chance is better than NO CHANCE. Just list it.

Unpopular opinion (please don’t hate me): I think trainer cards are overrated and I don’t understand the popularity with them. I especially do not understand the popularity of Marnie or other “waifu” cards.

Call me old fashioned, but I collect Pokemon cards for the Pokemon, I really couldn’t care less about the human characters.

You just don’t understand the intrinsic value of a piece of art like this:

I mean, I’ll be honest, this is a trainer I can get behind. We need a full art version.

I like specific trainer cards when they tie into the anime and/or video games. Beyond that, I couldn’t care less. I don’t understand the obsession with waifus either.

Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

I don’t get it either, but it’s kinda intersting, so for someone, perhaps that’s enough. I remember pulling this and thinking, “Am I looking at Attack on Titan fanart?”

I recently finished ORAS and decided to get the Zinnia cards because of the attitude and design of the character. Brigette and Lysander are others of my faves because of the cards’ design. Ultimately some of the char FA are really cool, but yes, there is that line where it becomes an obsession. :face_vomiting:

Hey I like FA Trainers, but I also understand leaving them out of one’s collecting. Personally, I like the universe they’ve created with Pokemon, and that extends to trainers and other characters…

Except Poke Maniac. We don’t talk about Poke Maniac.

Also, we’re dealing with a collectible, not a stock or commodity. Intrinsic value is determined by an objective analysis of the thing. I’d argue that there is little intrinsic value in any of these shiny pieces of cardboard that we all collect. Am I right?

The waifu thing is something else entirely, but why I collect them is because I played SWSH and SV and it’s nice to have the characters as cards.

The Gen 1 characters are iconic and the rest just becomes completionism for someone like me lol. I did play Gen 2/3 but don’t have much memory of most of the characters.

The waifu tax annoys me though because it just makes many cards unrealistically expensive.

Just wait for Larry full art. He will take the waifu world by storm

This should be a super unpopular take of mine… but at least waifu cards have some sort of relevance and tie-in to the games. On the other hand, cards like master scroll have minimum if not zero nostalgia.

I can understand why. Master’s Scroll or Master’s Book in Japanese was awarded to TCG players who reached the Master’s Rank. This was to signify a parchment or a book where you would write the names of all the foes you vanquished while attaining the Master’s Rank. Something similar to a Death Note.
