What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

Generally I do prefer the crunchy and simplistic sounds of the original tracks but both are phenomenal in my option.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I really like collecting modern for binder cards. Brings me back to when I was a kid

A good chunk of Pokemon sellers have brain damage. Listing a card for 200-300% of last sold prices just makes me think you have trouble dressing yourself every day.

Counterpoint:

The seller is not motivated to sell unless it crosses a certain price. Otherwise they would rather keep the card for their collection. Does this make them brain damaged?

Then why list the card when you know they are not selling for what you want? Sounds like brain damage to me.

They may end up selling. I’ve listed cards far higher than the average sale price and have unexpectedly sold them before. Not every buyer deeply checks comps.

For example, I sold two graded cards to a grandma for her grandchildren’s Christmas gifts. She overpaid by $150-$200, but that didn’t concern her at all. She was a very happy customer and let me know how much her grandchildren enjoyed their gifts.

At the end of the day, sellers are allowed to list for whatever they want. If they sell, great. If they don’t, oh well. This doesn’t make them braindead, it makes them picky.

The thing is: it’s not just sellers listing things for high prices for the hell of it; it’s sellers who legitimately think their cards are worth more than they are. I rarely even look at BIN listings anymore because of how utterly delusional most sellers are. Of course, there are still some reasonable BIN listings – but they are astonishingly few in number. Auctions are pretty much the only viable way to buy graded cards at this point.

Yep, this is a problem that can only be overcome by their cards not selling. Those sellers won’t listen to reason. :upside_down_face:

I have a handful of cards that I consider part of my collection listed for probably 2x+ market. Some have best offers enabled and some do not. If they sold for that price I would be happy but otherwise I’d rather keep them in my collection.

I’ve had people buy and pay for cards at 3x+ market just because I was the only seller available. They never even messaged me; I just woke up to the ship now notification.

Why would I leave potential money on the table if I’m not in a rush to sell?

I’d say ol granny spending $200 more than she should have is brain damage activity as well IMO and being that you are admitting that you engage in the practice that I am talking shit about I think we can just agree to disagree.

Well said.

@Gus, I think you and I are different from the group that @zorloth and @swirlord may be referencing. Those who list cards at 2x, 3x, 5x what they are actually worth because they believe that price is accurate due to ignorance. It sounds like you and I (and others on e4) know the market price, but would rather mark up the listing and keep the card at that price.

I’m a glass-half-full guy and have to assume at least some of them are pulling a “set it and forget it” and waiting for the prices to increase across the board (as opposed to fishing for fat fingers)

I bet she woulda been happier getting it for 150-200 bucks cheaper lol

There were tons of copies available on eBay at the time. She chose mine for one reason or another. Maybe she was looking at feedback or that I had both available for sale.

It’s possible, but I’ll give some more context.

Buyer has a feedback score of 214 on eBay and has had an account open since 2009. I don’t think she was clueless when it came to using the platform and finding what she wanted to buy. I’ll note that many of her purchases have been from Pokemon sellers judging by the sellers’ usernames.
