Vivid Voltage Megathread

Anyone know what time pokecenter will drop Vivid Voltage tomorrow ?

Didn’t want to be “that guy” haha but just to have all the information on board.

You guys think the chase set cards are their answer to gearing more towards collectors without releasing more collector focus sets? What’s your opinions on this? It seems now that PokĂ©mon is really hot, we are seeing a shift of chase rainbow rare cards to higher pull rates. This way more product is sold/ sought after without mixing up collector only sets in the mix. Also allows players a cheaper version with the non rainbow if not into collecting.

The fact that the Rainbow Pikachu is harder to pull than the Hidden Fates Zard terrifies me.

Vivid Voltage is definitely a cool set, but there aren’t many cards I’d care to own. Major exception being the Mega-Chonk-Pika.

Well, bought a single pack on a whim today and was amazed to pull him. Experiences like that almost have a surreal quality to them.

I know how you feel. A couple weeks after Darkness Ablaze released, I noticed my job had nearly a full stock of DA + SwSh 2-packs. I didn’t want to buy packs, but I didn’t want to buy the Charizard VMAX for $100 either. I knew that there is a specific individual who comes to the store and clears us out of Pokemon cards (he did it with the 2-packs and 3-pack blisters the previous two weekends) so I figured fine, I shouldn’t waste this opportunity, so I’ll buy some packs.

I took 10 packs off the shelf on my break and bought them. I didn’t want to, but I did. And its a good thing I did! An hour later I walked by the card wall and ALL the 2-packs were GONE. Store completely wiped, again.

Fast forward to when I get home, and I open the 10 DA packs. Luck was on my side - 7 out of 10 were hits! What’s more, Charizard V was in my first pack. And my last? Yep, you guessed it! The chad, STONK ZARD VMAX, baby. I couldn’t believe it, I actually let out a cry of accomplishment (read: “LET"S ______ GOOOOO”)

Haven’t opened any packs since then (besides a random CP ETB I found) because I know I’ll just be disappointed like always, haha.

Charizard deck is sold out at one of the biggest game shop in the Netherlands.
People already flipping them for €20-30.
ETB is also almost sold out.

This is what happens when demand is through the roof and printing is hindered by both pandemic restrictions and overwhelming demand. Reprints will definitely be coming! There is a December reprint and likely a few more reprints in 2021. Once the pandemic is over I would expect a large reprint to occur for several sets. It’s just a matter of time, buy smart and don’t let FOMO get the best of you!

anyone else getting VV quality below expectations ? this pikachu full art card is 2 minutes old.

Seems interesting ive pulled better quality holos from vintage packs than my cases of VV, different stock sure is fun

Yep, I made a comment with some photos in the VV megathread a few days before release when I got my box. All sorts of edge wear like you showed. Contacted the Pokemon Company and they said to mail the damaged cards to their office and they will replace them if they deem them to be damaged (basically if they wouldn’t let them in official Pokemon events).

Edit: Thread got moved here so just go a few pages back if curious to see the pics I uploaded.

When Randolph opened multiple cases on the weekend, most of his Full Art Cards were terribly centered as well. Seems like they dropped the ball on this one quality control wise.

From what I’ve seen so far, centering and whitening have been a consistent issue with this set.

Interesting. I guess they printed these cards 20 years ago and finally decided to release them now that they’re deteriorating away in their warehouses. Only explanation I could think of for god damn CRACKS on the edge of the card, wtf.

they used the evolutions blades to cut these cards

Not much data but have opened three boxes and no whitening, just slight OC on some that will probably make them PSA 9

So what y’all are saying is that 10s are going to be money?

Got a question, how comes S & SH and rebel clash are widely available yet darkness ablaze and vivid are basically sold out everywhere?

Is it the zard effect? Chunky boi effect?

“Is it the zard effect? Chunky boi effect?”

Exactly. DA has charizard which is about the only thing going for it to set it apart from the previous 2 sets. Vivid voltage is actually kind of a pog set with rare fat pikachus and the amazing rares. I’d say its the first actual good set in the swsh era

@fresco, rumor has it that printing on these sets was affected by the pandemic - to what extent is unknown. I believe the low availability is a combination of that and what krill stated above.
