The PWCC Megathread

anyone know if you can ship cards graded by random grading companies to the pwcc vault? Not to sell them just for storage

Think it was something like $3 for graded and $6 for raw vault storage. Don’t see why they wouldn’t take them.

Yeah I see they list the companies that they sell, but I didnt know if they would take joe blow’s grading company slab in the vault. Ill give it a shot

Ive had HGA in there before

Feel like I should just send it there and see what happens but idk seems like they don’t want any of that crap

  • edit she said that they no longer allow storage of slabs besides the ones listed in her message, probably a new feature from the new management

I think this is a “shoot and ask questions later” kind of scenario

I should probably have gone that way but oh well. Ill just have it shipped to me. She did say it would be rejected but she could just be overly enforcing the rules

A card I sold last week went unpaid, so PWCC automatically relisted it for the same asking price - but through the Japan craze, the card’s market value has more than doubled since then. So of course it sold in less than five minutes, before I could react (even if I wasn’t sleeping).

I would obv not have listed it for the same price, but apparently PWCC doesn’t ask you, unlike eBay. The sale is “pending”, but ofc this happens over a weekend where I can’t chat with them.

Is there a setting to not have BIN items be relisted automatically when they are not paid? Because if not, there’s a scenario where if a card keeps not getting paid, it’s stuck in a loop of getting re-listed without me being able to do anything about it without contacting support or reacting to the “an item went unpaid - we relisted it for u bud” eMail quicker than a buyer lmao.

Who on earth decided constant distracting pop-ups of cards I don’t care about at all was a good idea? This is how I have to browse the weekly auction now to not go insane.

It’s a stunning feature I wish ebay would employ it so I don’t spend as much as I do.

I wouldnt care as much if the popups obeyed the filters you have on, but why are sports cards popping up when I have my filters set on nerd stuff?

Random rant…

I’m almost certain someone was shilling an item I was trying to win during this weekly (#73). I held max bid for over an hour, and someone would keep putting in a min-bid increase to extend the time.

Once it became 1 minute extensions, I decided against bidding on the item because I’m fairly certain it was being shilled.

In the past, I’ve bid on items that went over an hour in extensions, but usually bidding was sporadic and increments were larger. People were fighting for max bid. In this case, someone was not going for max bid, and kept putting in min bids to extend the time.

I would say that’s fairly normal. If their intent was to exhaust you, it may have worked.

It could have been that, obviously I don’t know what they’re thinking. But, this was the first time I’ve ever experienced something where it was a single bidder putting in min bids to extend the bid window. Even when they met max bid, they didn’t extend their bid to try and end the auction by the next window. They just kept min-bidding every increment.

To me, it seemed a lot like they were trying to extend the auction window to try and get more eyes on the auction because they were not satisfied with the price.

I’m very curious if this will be a non-paid auction item. If it doesn’t go paid, I think that would prove this was shilled

Edit: Just to add, what if my max bid was very high. The other bidder does not know my max bid (until they match it). So their strategy of min-bidding to extend the auction window would not have worked or else they could’ve potentially have had to keep bidding for hours on end. This is another reason why I think they were purposely min-bidding to try and extend the auction for as long as possible

In my opinion with PWCC there is little reason to watch the auction or bid in the extended window. I put my bids in during the middle of the week and check for any last minute additions on Sunday. After that I won’t check again until the auction is over.

It’s not like eBay where sniping can save you $$$ over time by eliminating emotional bidders/nibblers. In PWCC you can’t prevent emotional bidders or someone shilling an auction.

This is my strat for the groups of cards I buy which are readily available on eBay just 2-5x the last auction price :expressionless:

Did the price go for below, average or above fair market value?

There was one that was a half grade higher that sold a few weeks prior and that one went for a bit more. I also bid on that auction but did not win it. But, I could tell there were a few participants bidding on it, especially during extensions. I don’t think a lot of people saw this auction until during extension because the price was very low (imo). During extensions, I’m pretty sure people saw the bids coming in for it and started participating more.

Prior to this, there are no recent sold for this card I can find on eBay or pwcc. So I’m not sure what fair market value would be. Based off the prior sale though, price ended fairly imo

I personally probably would’ve bid higher if I didn’t feel like this was being shilled on purpose

It sounds awful, but sometimes I will incrementally bid on PWCC if I want a card enough. My reasoning is that the longer that the auction goes, the more likely it is that the other bidders will have exhausted their funds and will give the card up. It’s worked in my favor before, but I wouldn’t call it shill bidding because I genuinely wanted the card.

I was going to say exactly this. If the price ended fairly I’m not sure shill is my immediate thought either although that is obviously a possibility as with any auction. I have also done the “annoy and exhaust” method on pwcc of doing minimum incremental at the last 30 seconds. I’ve also had it done to me as the underbidder. Psychologically, I also don’t think people want to bid $20 higher as an example when they can do it by $1 or $5 or whatever

I understand, I’m making a huge assumption here. I also often play the long game and extend bids on certain items I really want. I’ve often won auctions this way, and often lost auctions this way as well.

But something about this particular auction and the way they bid, it was very abnormal to me. It honestly felt like they wanted to keep extending the auction as long as possible to try and get more visibility and bidders in on the action. It was very obvious it was just me and one other person bidding on this item.
