And days later we get an inside shot of Wyndon Stadium. Except it’s not another Wyndon Stadium, it’s better:
Player’s Ceremony 2020!
For the 3rd consecutive year we’ve got a lovely Player’s Ceremony hitting the Japanese competitive scene. These cards are awarded to players in Japan who reach a certain number of championship points over the competitive year. This year, apparently only 30 points are needed which is half of that was needed last year and a quarter of the 120 points needed in 2018. Covid’s possibly played a role in lowering the threshold but all good if it means more to go around.
The Player’s Ceremony cards are the only stadiums illustrated by Himeno and this year’s is my favourite yet. I love it.
Even though it’s background, to have an inside shot of one of the big Galar stads is really good. The Pokemon (which arguably, are too big) have a decent amount of personality and give plenty to look at. All 3 years of illustrations have featured Pikachu and falling confetti.
Based on the last 2 years we can expect to see them given out some time next month. Update: people have already received them this month.
Cards like this really help to keep stadium collecting enjoyable, so love to see it.
Love the 2020 Player’s Ceremony! Aside from Alcremie, all of the Pokemon pictured have seen some play in tournaments the past six months. Love they kept that theme going.
Oh great shout, I’ve never noticed that. I only follow the competitive scene pretty loosely last year and recognise some of big cards from the 2019 version, does the same apply for the 2018 one?
@fiery , yea go for it, they’re a great line. Here’s some more info on them. edit: Link seems to be broken^ or mislinked. Can’t remember where I originally linked to
The upcoming dual sets in Japan are each bringing a new stadium to the roster. We’ve only seen reprints since Sept, so happy to be getting some freshies. In Single Strike Master we’ve got Tower of Darkness and in Rapid Strike Mater, Tower of Waters. While the towers look fine, I do like that they share a design. I’m just pleased to get stadiums that feature the new Rapid/Single Strike stamps over the illustrations.
New Pokemon illustrator Oswaldo KATO’s first artwork is coming. Seeing a non-generic stadium art coming from a set is always such a treat and I adore this illustration. Hopefully we get to see more from them.
Stadium Set Review: Silver Lance & Jet-Black Spirit
We’re in luck, our hero has returned.
The new dual sets, Silver Lance & Jet-Black Spirit each contain one new stadium card, both of which are illustrated by the superstar Oswaldo KATO. In Silver Lance we’ve got Path to the Peak and in Jet-Black Spirit is Old Cemetery.
I love the interesting perspectives shown on these stadiums, it’s something so rarely seen in stadium arts. Both are shown low to the ground with some fish-eye distortion, pretty funky. Also I love the texture on these things.
These sets have like 50 combined secrets, tho unfortunately still no sign of any new secret stadiums.
They’re both awesome. They would work fantastic as full arts as well, I think. Might have to start an Oswaldo KATO collection if he keeps being this good.
Don’t know how I’ve missed this thread for so long! I’m a stadium hunter myself, I look for rare stadiums and ones that I just generally like. I’ll start posting here a couple times a month with some of my stadiums and give a back story. Right after the x1 PSA 10 German Gold Star Rayquaza, Stadiums are the undisputed #2 grail of the hobby.
This is the 2010 Indigo Plateau Holo stadium that was awarded in Japan. The card has an amazing holo and incorporates a fan favorite, Celebi.
Release info as stated on Bulbepedia:
“This card was released in the English Triumphant expansion, originating from the Japanese Clash at the Summit expansion. In Japan, a Cosmos Holofoil L-P Promotional print of this card was awarded as part of a number of events held during the month of July 2010. It was awarded to the top 3 winners of the Clash at the Summit Release Commemoration tournaments, and to participants of Challenge Hiroba tournaments and Pokémon Center Card Get Battle events who won 3 consecutive battles. This print has the Pokémon Card Game LEGEND logo in the top right of the illustration and the Clash at the Summit logo on the bottom left.”
@icollectr Love it, glad to know there’s more stadium collectors out there. Looking forward to seeing the updates for some of your collection, that Indigo Plateau is such a good one to start with
