The Giant Professional Grading Thread

check the turnaround times. CGC is 60 days pay upfront. PSA is 60 days pay after grading. PSA is still king. The
pSA registry is establish. CGC pumpers are saying low pop ,etc. But the reason the CGC is low pop is the registry is new, mostly everything is low pop. We use all major companies, so not hating, just stating facts.

SGC turnaround right now is 7 days but you pay before sending.

*my opinion , If Whatnot dies, CGC dies with it.

CGC isn’t going anywhere, it’s part of the CCG umbrella and they have a ton of backing alongside decades of experience with other collectibles.

That being said, if you want price and liquidity, PSA is king. Someday you might see more parity between the two companies like NGC and PCGS in rare coins, but that day is not today.

CGC dying is like BGS dying. It wont disappear, but it wont be what it is now. Whatnot is why most ultramodern collectors accept CGC. It WAS about the fast turnaround times and cheap grading for whatnot flipping. 60days is not helping . SGC can take advantage and steal some market share from CGC now. We dont know the future, but what if CGC goes to 90days? Still think CGC is an option?

A post was split to a new topic: Tord Reklev’s No. 2 Worlds Trophy Card Featuring the Name of the Player

This is super frustrating I’m sorry. I hope they compensate you fully. Its sad to see so many posts about this happening lately. With old cards its really sad too because there aren’t probably many mint card lying around anymore.

Thanks for the responses, I don’t use Whatnot so that’s not something I’ve paid attention to. In the UK we go through a middleman so we pay up front regardless. But you’re right the biggest market is going to be PSA for a long time to come. Just this risk of damage currently - but how long can that realistically last without backlash - you would hope they resolve it swiftly!!

I am thinking of buying a mint gold star pikachu Japanese. All seems really good, except it has these dots at the back. Is this a big issue at PSA?

This would be a big purchase for me, so I want to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes a slightly damped qtip is able to wipe it off.

Also, I see some minor whitening on that bottom left corner, maybe its the photo but it might not be a mint copy

Yeah, there is some slight whitening, indeed. Its not mint mint, but should still be a psa 9-10 contender I feel like. Just not sure about these dots.

Hey all!
I have 20 mint copies of the same card I am looking to submit (vintage JP) to PSA.
If it was all modern I think I would put them all together but vintage can be a bit more subjective in my limited experience.

Would you submit them all at once or split them into a few separate submissions?

  • All at once
  • 2+ subs
  • You’re overthinking it

You’re not overthinking it in my experience/opinion. Ive been sending higher value vintage 1 card at a time for a while now

Saw this on instagram. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t have posted the cert if i was him :stuck_out_tongue:
But it is very believable, prob a dent that made it a psa 5 that becket overlooked /missed

Maybe i dont know anythjng but shouldnt that bgs cert number start with 16xx if the card just got converted? If so, this is probably just an attention grab.

Ooh! Good eye!

Yeah, post a picture of the card with the same holo patern in the PSA case and the Becket afterwards. Otherwise it is just hardly evidence. The same goes for that black label Moonbreon card. Just a lot of noise!

I guess he should be thanking BGS from over two years ago lol

Question for first time submit, is there any point in declaring under the max declared value of your tier? Since they refund the declared value if they damage the card pre grading it seems to me there’s not, but I could be missing something.

It could make your insured return shipping cost higher but otherwise I’m with you that it makes sense to not underdeclare.

Insured shipping does not increase between declaring a card at $99 and $199
