日本のマーケット部分 The Giant Japanese Market Thread

I’ve been checking the price of Pikachu ex World Championship 2023, seems to be dropping to $300.

Has pokemon released a FA pikachu like this for a WCC before?

Pokémon center just opened another lottery today for the deck box so the price will only drop from here.

Bought it from a pretty big name on YouTube, eBay and I think he’s active here but fair play. I gambled on scarcity. Thankfully I’ve made no mistakes bigger than this (so far).
Also, you can add a juicy shipping fee to Europe on top of that. I don’t buy and when I do, it’s from Cardmarket now. You play, you learn.

I think this happened to a lot of us. Especially considering what happened in 20/21.
Hopefully you are not too hard on yourself with this one

Did you mean you gambled on rarity?

As someone else pointed out, it doesn’t have to be rare to be scarce.

Yeah, at that point I couldn’t find any PSA 10 of that card sold and I was like “hey, a rare find”. I did minimal research but I’d be lying if I 100% regretting getting this card. Sure, way overpriced but I still like the art and the fact that there aren’t that PSA 10’s many around (that I know of). Of course, that could be because people just aren’t that bothered grading it.

I mostly collect for the artwork and whiskys for investment. By the way, whiskys are a children’s game compared to Pokémon trading cards, no joke :joy:

I have been having this issue for months on the Pokemon Center Japan site. I haven’t been able to apply for anything that is a lottery or printed to demand that requires an application. It was never a problem before. I believe it started with the Pokemon TCG Classic application as that is the first one where I applied and got this error.

I’ve tried removing and adding the card again. Maybe the card company flagged it, but I’m able to purchase items normally from PC Japan just fine with it. I have one other card, but it will not work with PC Japan and I’d rather not have to get a new card. Has anyone gotten this error before and had success with fixing the issue?

I don’t get it. How can Buyee offer 10-20% Mercari coupons, I doubt Mercari sellers are charged 20% so it’s not like Mercari is just reverting the fees to Buyee. Even with their ~2% currency fee and the 300 yen, feels like they are making no money or losing money, but that can’t be the case.
Also, how come Buyee can offer these coupons but ZenMarket only offers 5% in cashback very rarely?

Lets assume they are actually losing money off of these coupons. Did you know grocery stores often sell staples such as milk at a loss to get people to shop at their stores and buy other things? I’d imagine it’s a similar thing for buyee.

But this is not the same as what grocery stores are doing. Currently it’s a 12-15% coupon off of some of the most popular categories being bought from Mercari.

Yes, I know about loss leaders, but these coupons pretty much cover the entire website, they even offer Yahoo and Rakuma coupons so it’s hard to understand where are they making money during these periods unless people are paying 500 yen plan fees on 200 yen items…

On top of that they sometimes even offer 50-75% shipping coupons and 1k-2k yen on registration.

Why do they offer 12% and 15% discount offer at the same time? How does that makes sense? Who would pick the 12% over the 15%? :joy:

They’re offering different percentages for different categories this time, 15% for cards though.

I agree that the math doesn’t add up for me either, especially since there’s no cap. But for now, I am happy to keep using the codes until they are gone lol

This is the answer!

My usual habit on buyee:

“Oooh coupons let me get something”

“Hmm 30 days free storage, let my utilise that incase I want anything else,”

coupon expires

“Hmm there is no point sending one thing, I should get something else”
pays full price

“Oh well, there is no point paying that much postage when I could just squeeze something else into that consolidation to justify it”
pays full price

ships package

“Oooh look more coupons!”

Repeat

On the current one at least for the toys/hobbies category, the 15% off caps off at 10,000 yen discount so approximately up to $70 off an item.

They’re not making money during these periods. They’re banking on this bringing them future business when they won’t have coupons available.

Some of the people using these coupons will be longtime Buyee users who will continue using the site as much as they did before, but others might be new customers. Look at how much free advertising they’re getting just by people talking about the coupons.

Companies frequently have to spend more money to acquire a customer than that customer will spend on average on one order. It’s about the repeat business in the future.

I feel personally attacked!

Yeah that’s different. All last month there was no cap and the coupon was reusable too. Crazy lol

Where do you all think Japanese Neo Shining PSA 10s should be priced at? I recently sold my Shining Steelix. Thought I had it listed for more than someone would buy it for, but looks like the sale has been completed. It’s bittersweet because I love Japanese Shinings and feel it will be hard to reacquire if I ever want to, but I feel the price I got for it was quite good and I always have Unlimited English PSA 10 to look at.
