I didn’t know about this automated message, but it seems even weirder given that buyers aren’t given much recourse in the case that the seller tries to pull something fishy anyway. (At least, as far as I can tell reading about some people’s experiences)

I wonder if buyee got scammed if they would even then leave postive feedback for the seller?

Such as you pay for the inspection or insurance plan thing and they sent a totally different card etc.

The fact they send the message at all really annoys me. Personally dont think it should be the sellers business to know that it is going to an overseas customer when they are in the clear by just getting it to buyee themselves.

I know for a fact buyers who were scammed in various capacities will leave negative feedback. There’s a term they use which translates to “paying the tuition fee” to indicate that they basically made a bad call to buy cards from said seller.

Personally I keep an eye out for such reviews, if there’s even one such mention and the seller doesn’t rebuke, I close the listing ASAP.

Don’t know how they leave feedback for sellers and how that works, but I think the proxy sites do keep a running list of blacklisted sellers.

I also think the message is entirely unnecessary. At best, it is completely neutral and contributes nothing at all; at worst, it may embolden a seller to pull a fast one. I guess you could argue if a seller was aware of these proxy sites anyway, they would be able to recognize the buyer as a proxy site account without the message.

100% agree. I also feel the message adds nothing but looks like a warning where the seller, if they are a bit nervous, or if it is a high ticket item, might be more prone to deny selling the card. Also, I would be really surprised if the top Mercari sellers for Pokemon cards were not aware that the accounts are proxy sites. I say this because whenever I ask my middleman service to ask for negotiation, they always leave messages to the sellers from the same account. That account has a rating of over 100k. I think if you connect the dots then it is fair to assume that it is merchant account of some type.

Also, I know for a fact that the service I use keeps a shadow list of banned sellers. Meaning I can see their listings but I can’t bid/buy the items listed using the middleman service. It has happened on 2 occasions now, where on checking with them, they mentioned that the seller was banned because of prior issues and I can’t bid/buy on the item even if I was aware of the risks involved.

Cheers!

Can confirm this, they will sometimes unblock on request ime but not always
Often it’s because seller refuses to work with proxies aka doesn’t want the goods leaving Japan for whatever reason.

Buyee has 20% off when shopping on Mercari. Posting here because I made some purchases. Great time to knock out some vintage goals. Does Buyee have discounts this steep year-round?

Summer time they bounce between 10-20%, I don’t think they run them any other time though, or at least not this steep.

The 20% is very nice, usually if its 12%-15% I’m happy. With the 20%, It was a good time for me to purchase some Yu Nagaba cards/packs since the prices spiked a lot on eBay compared to Japan.

Will this be only for today, or will this continue?

oh, damn. Thanks for the info. How often does Mercari have 20% off. Did they ever do more than 20%?

Not very often, 10-12% is the norm. I’ve never seen higher than 20%, that is already super good especially when you get into the high 4, or 5 figure buys.
