Mercari is trustworthy if you buy from the buyers with good ratings. I just usually look at the buyers sold listings and check their feedback. If it all checks out and no complaints, I feel confident. Usually though I buy from sellers with at least 400+ feedback if its for sealed and higher priced items.

Maybe a second question.
I had to hurry a bit to get the coupon in time. But is there a way to get combined shipping and not having to pay 300 Yen extra for every order?
Oh, and can you combine tenso and buyee shipping out of Japan, since it’s the same company?

No 300 yen per listing, with the conversion rate it’s really cheap per purchase in the grand scheme of things unless you’re buying $10 or cheaper singles.

What margin does buyee add on top of they can easily give 20% discounts out?

In addition to the current YEN to USD conversion rate, they also pad in the regular 3.3% Paypal fees (I’m sure they are contracted much lower than 3.3%) into the price they show you. This is easily determined and proven by looking at the actual true conversion rate between the YEN and your local currency at any given time, and then just multiplying it by 1.033.
So for example if an item is 10,000 yen, as of today that would be almost $71 USD, but the price buyee shows you is actually closer to $73.50 before their 300 YEN fee so they are not out any Paypal or payment processing fees. I would have to think they were taking a bath offering 20% off (especially on higher 4 and 5 figure transactions), but hoping to make up some of that on the consolidation fees and longer term buyer loyalty to them now. I would highly doubt they run 20% off again any time soon. Most of their Mercari coupons are only good for 48 hours at a time.

Ever had experience with buying from Mercari with them? I bought 4 items, but two of them still say order received instead of order completed? My understanding is the purchase on Mercari should be automatic, so my fear is these orders are going to be canceled? Do they need to confirm with the seller before completing the order?

I almost exclusively use Mercari and other sites now over YJ, as pricing seems to be much better than YJ and the sellers typically offer free shipping (unlike YJ sellers). Be patient, I don’t know if every Mercari order is manually processed or not but sometimes it can take a few hours to get that “order confirmed” email from Buyee. If they can’t process the order for whatever reason, you’ll be refunded. Were these higher dollar items? Because those typically takes a little while longer for buyee to confirm.

However, it’s a listing from an account with zero seller feedback (the account’s 31 positive feedbacks are all as a purchaser) with only this listing and who has blocked out the cert numbers.

I’m sure there have been instances of scams like this. For me personally, I would rather buy from a longtime user with a lot of positive feedback that has a good history of selling sealed product, rather than a brand new user that has no history selling anything or barely any feedback.
I did buy from a seller with 0 feedback though and ordered 50 Yu Nagaba packs. Got them for super cheap with a 15% discount, and when they arrived everything was perfect. There are always exceptions.
