Correct. This will be a pop 150 card, although I imagine over 50% of that will be bgs 10/at least psa 10 copies. $6000 is first adopter/first-to-market premium, but I don’t imagine this card will fall under $2500 even when the market steadies.
someone showed on IG an image of a card being sold on some japanese site for around 440k yen, which is just over 4000USD. they didn’t list the website, so i can’t confirm.
supposedly they are now awarding a total of 1200 copies? everyone and their dogs would know to NOT play with this card. i would imagine most copies to get graded eventually. still, this card should be well over 4 figures for the next many months.
also, since these are awarded, the copies will have a staggered distribution. so we won’t see all 1200 copies out at once. over the next many months, we’ll see supplies steadily come onto the market. being japanese, these cards should grade well, which might translate into some crazy prices, especially in bgs 10 or psa 10. people now automatically add that “grading premium” even if this card isn’t hard to grade.
Again, these are just from Mercari. Do not buy from eBay as these are all Japanese flipper accounts. The second one has already sold: www.mercari.com/jp/items/m11990824536 (I’m hoping it didn’t sell through eBay as it was over $3k cheaper on Mercari).
I thought it was 600? Considering around 10 of them have appeared for sale so far and the event is only half way into day 2 of 62, I can’t imagine there will only be 150.
It was mentioned that an extra 600 copies of the Charizard VMAX would be distributed in Japan via a lottery making it 1200 in total - I don’t know if that was fully confirmed.
It’s officially confirmed on the Pokémon Card Game website. 600 in-store event , 600 lottery at home. Of course, this number is subject to change, the virus can change everything.
Between all 3 tournaments in which the old school Trophy Pikachus were distributed, there are only 32 of these that were ever awarded. (Rarer than an Illustrator)
Two No. 1 Pikas recently sold for $88k and $85k.
There are also fewer copies of the No. 2 graded by PSA than any other Pika trophy (PSA pops between all 3 tournaments are 11 Gold, 8 Silver, 10 Bronze).
