Great videos Scott really enjoyed them. Quick question though, i’m looking to invest in some products for future resell (2-5 years down the road). Do you think it would be wiser to invest in WOTC/EX sealed booster boxes or say 1st edition shadowless charizards as like you said they are the first art of the card/super popular amongst anyone who likes Pokemon lol. Both these seem to be going up each year. And if sealed products which boxes specifically would you recommend? More WOTC over the EX series? Thanks

That doesn’t sound like a question coming from one of his two main pillars of the community. Sounds more like the third one. Be careful there. Don’t risk any money you can’t afford to lose. They have been going up exponentially the past few years and that could turn out to be a bubble or it could just be part way to the top. Hard to tell either way and there is no sure bet. That being said, sealed product is nice and all in that it never is being produced again, but authenticity issues arise and cannot be understated. The sheer amount of fakes that have come up with 1st edition shadowless has been very troubling. With jungle and fossil 1st edition boxes skyrocketing lately its probably not too far off until fakes of those start coming out.

High graded early cards 9-10 especially base set 1st edition seem to be a decent bet to increase in the short to mid future. Shadowless print run was extremely limited as well and may be another good bet. I would expect ex series boxes to continue to rise, but the fakes and re-seal thing is scary. I never have put a large amount into a box that I have not opened. It would be scary to drop 1k+ on a box to sit on it and possibly 5 years later find out it was fake or gets damaged in your care. Much harder to care for as well as pack and ship which needs to be considered too.

I know I am not Scott but wanted to toss my two cents in. My main bet would be 1st edition shadowless and shadowless high grades, Even jungle and fossil higher grades. Then the higher tier trophies as well which I don’t know too much about yet personally.

My answer would be, por que no los dos!

But really, If you had to choose one, the charizard is probably the best option. It has a better chance of hitting peripheral collectors who may not typically collect pokemon. For example, there are probably guys who aren’t big into basketball, but would like to own a Michael Jordan Rookie. Where I don’t think most peripheral collectors would go after sealed product. Also, a graded charizard is cut and dry. With sealed product, you have a bit more risk or added variables. For example, is the product tampered, was it weighed, things along those lines.

With that said, old sealed product is a safe investment in my opinion, but if you had to choose one, I think there is more favoring the charizard.

Well thank you I do appreciate your opinion and taking the time to answer my questions on this well even if it wasn’t directed to you. I’ve already seen a fake jungle booster box as well but you could tell it was fake. I haven’t seen any fakes yet good enough to really compare to the real thing and not be able to tell the two apart (which is a really good thing lol). Also i’m not sure if people would be able to replicate the exact Wizards wrapping with their logos on it and seal them over boxes (would be scary if they could though lol). Charizards seem like a safe bet as everyone will always like him and he’s been able to remain one of the most popular over 20 years and hundreds of new pokemon being released. Thank you again for the input though!

Okay that helps me thank you. I think the 20th anniversary hype helped boost pokemon prices a bit as well as many people who used to be into the game started researching and coming back and wanting to feel that nostalgia again of one of the first and favorite pokemon. I think this could have factored into why Charizard went up quite a bit this year as it was more in demand again. I see the same thing happening for the 25th anniversary as well, so thank you for your thoughts on this, it helped and I appreciate it!

He would control the whole market. People would most likely still want the cards and they would have to pay whatever amount this guy asks for. Or he just hoards them all for himself and ruins the game for collectors lol. But as a business person I see the first thing happening. Definitely is some scary shit though.

I have to say @smpratte - a.k.a Smprattican… Your Videos are really good on the information level… BUT What you need to add is a touch of Humor in your talkings. Adding this splice to the recipe will bring great things. That rudy guy, has some great informations, but he constantly using humor in his talkingtons, which is really enjoyable, I have nirly watched all his videos.

Maybe i can help with the humor side of things, if you pm about your plans xD Though… It is really hard to do… I have many troubles expressing humor in videos that i have made… I have about 30 vids+ i havnt uploaded, im just not sure how to get it right… Its a hard thing to do.

Really enjoyed both the videos. Keep it up!

Thanks! I have one on PSA and pokemon, and a better version of value/supply and demand that I will publish soon. I plan on mixing in some videos on sets and specific cards as well.
