Shiny Treasure - 2023 JP High Class Pack

we have been theorycrafting in discord since this was leaked this morning :joy:
It seems legit as of now, but I would wait for more info before I would say if it is legit 100%
Looks promising though

I could be wrong but I feel like the discourse in this thread last month was that people were worried that we’d be getting Gen IX clones of the previous shiny high class sets which would just be color swaps of existing full arts.

I wouldn’t be shocked if TPC incorporated shiny Pokemon into SARs. It’s just a natural progression.

So will those that cried this set will be “bad” admit their mistake of seeing one type of card and assuming it would be the whole set (even though there are 400 cards)?

This is why I didn’t say anything when the set was first announced. You really can’t judge what a set is going to be based off just a few cards. The Mew and Charizard look excellent and I’m very happy it looks like we’re going to be getting more than just the standard reprints. I’m excited to see what other SIR’s and AR’s are in the set.

Also PAF is the shorthand for this set in English? Interesting. Does that mean we won’t be getting a direct translation of the Japanese name? I know these setlist icons don’t always match the set names such as 151 being MEW, but PAF is a weird one to pick for that. Maybe Paldean Fates? Paradox Fates sounds much cooler but I doubt they’ll do that directly after Paradox Rift.

Edit: Now that I think of it, the name Paldean Fates makes a lot more sense. They probably want to continue to use the “Fates” naming scheme for the shiny Pokemon special sets, and couldn’t just adapt the Japanese name because Shining Fates was already taken.

If that mew is real and shiny sars happen i will entirely eat my initial words about the set. I need it.

Also wouldnt it be cool if Saya Tsurata hid a pokeball somewhere in the chrome void of the shiny cards

Oh. My. God. I hope this is real. Shiny SARs are what we deserve. And this card would be a great way to start.

If they’re going for an SAR for each of the JP set mascots then I imagine it’ll go like this:

231/091 Special Illustration Rare Chien-Pao ex [Water] - SV2P Snow Hazard
232/091 Special Illustration Rare Mew ex [Psychic] - SV2a Pokémon 151
233/091 Special Illustration Rare Ting-Lu ex [Fighting] - SV2D Clay Burst
234/091 Special Illustration Rare Charizard ex [Dark] - SV3 Ruler of the Black Flame

Since only one slot exists between Mew ex and Charizard ex, Koraidon ex [Fighting] receiving a Special Illustration Rare would cause conflict in the arrangement. Instead the generational mascots will be designated Hyper Rare gold cards (UR Ultra Rare in Japanese), like previous high class pack sets have done e.g. Sinnoh gods in VSTAR Universe, Zacian/Zamazenta/Eternatus in Shiny Star V, etc. Hopefully, they too will get special artwork like Giratina/Arceus/Dialga/Palkia VSTARs

235/091 Hyper Rare Miraidon ex [Lightning] - SV1V Violet ex
236/091 Hyper Rare Koraidon ex [Fighting] - SV1S Scarlet ex

Another thing I noticed, they’re Special Illustration Rares as indicated by the double gold star, not ‘Shiny Special Illustration Rares’ with a different symbol. Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, Koraidon and Miraidon are currently shiny-locked

All this is assuming that these cards are real

You wanted a shiny set, how about shiny alt arts including Charizard?

We are due to get the English version of Shiny Treasure ex on January 26th so these leaks are definitely plausible and in line with other leaks in the past.

Amusingly the set code is “PAF” which could potentially be “Paldea Fates” in line with our previous two western shiny sets.

I love (and kinda hate) that they have established this pattern now (yearly since Shining Fates) of having a big chase/special set every Jan/February, which takes a lot of the gloss off the main set that is likely due to release in March. But historically post-Christmas is a poor time for sales so it’s a good thing they are doing more to help local gamestores and the like.

As a player Crown Zenith and Shining Fates did very little to the meta so it is also disappointing that we have to wait almost 4-5 months before the next main expansion.

This happens when TPCi waits for Japan to release its sets first and then combine them. Wild Force and Cyber Judge (SV5) are expected to release in January, and their subset probably in March. Paldea Fates will help fill that void

As mentioned, majority of the main set lists for “special sets” are just filler and gym/deck cards from Japan. PAF will likely be the same. It’s disappointing there is no other way for TPCi to structure the western releases so we don’t have the fourth set each year effectively standing alone for 4-5 months.

Yeah they have to port over the remaining JP cards for the year into a release one way or another, this just happens to be their most efficient solution. Japan just releases too many cards
