I’ll begin.

Once you get past the dated CGI, the blue-tinted holofoil really sells this card.

After the release, never thought I’d be able to enjoy it. But time healed the wound, and now I’d like one in my collection long term!

Artwork is really growing on me.

Using this card as an example. When I first joined a year or so ago I really disliked these mid era trophies, because I thought their art was boring and generic. Although I still believe these cards are a bit underwhelming, I have begun appreciating cards with true rarity over condition rarity, and in the process become fascinated with the plethora of high and low end trophies from this era.

When i began my non tcg route i was a bit picky about what i wanted in my collection and sealdass cards and their layout were something i for some reason disliked, that feeling is long gone now tho and i’m happy to have them in my collection

First one that came to mind:

Seviper is my favorite Pokémon. And I know this EX Sandstorm artwork has always been loved by a lot of people. But in the past I couldn’t even make out what I was looking at, since it didn’t look like a Zangoose in my eyes (what happened to its red patterns?!). Also, Seviper’s tail and the angle of Seviper as a whole kinds screws with the perspective imo. All this is mostly because of the holofoil though, which blurs the intended artwork.

But because it was so loved, and also because of the clearer artwork with the Reverse Holo, it grew over time.

Still not my favorite Seviper artwork, but I do appreciate the artistic pose a lot more nowadays.

I’ll definitely post a few other artworks later on, but this one came to mind first.

Once I joined the Serpent King as Family, my eyes really opened to the beauty of Sandaconda V

Team Rocket Dark Slowbro kinda creeped me out at first. In general, I’m more drawn to cute & cuddly Slow family cards, and this one was a bit too “evil” for me.

But then I had the opportunity to have a card signed for me by Mistuhiro Arita. I looked through all of his Slowpoke family cards, and while there are some great newer ones in there, nothing beats the vintage one in my opinion.

Because of that, I got to spend some more time looking at the artwork for this card. I found a copy with the swirl coming out of his hand like a magical spell. The artwork definitely grew on me. The cosmos holo is super nice with the mysterious Team Rocket figure in the background. He is absolutely evil but still very pink.

When Arita signed it, he went with one of his “big head” sketches as opposed to the smaller ones I typically see. My name (Caroline / キャロライン) in Japanese looks cool with the Japanese text on the card.

Anyway, I love this card now thanks to Mr. Arita :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thanks so much, I’m glad you like it! The “big head” sketches can be a bit divisive but I personally really like them (I’m biased)

Oh wow! That’s a great autograph. You got back into collecting recently right? You made the journey to getting an Arita auto so fast! Were you in attendance for the Hawaii signing?

Expedition Dragonite has always bugged me, specifically Dragonite’s foot. I have no clue what Himeno was thinking with those foot/claw proportions. The rest of the illustration is beautiful, so it really detracts for me. It’s also unclear what Dragonite is doing - curb stomping someone? landing after a recent flight? I don’t know.

But over the years, I have learned to love this goofy illustration.

I found E4 a year ago, but was collecting for a while before that  I was not able to get this signed myself in person, it’s from a different event last year where someone got it signed on my behalf. I would love to meet Arita one day at an event though!

I love this card and I literally never thought about his foot before but you’re so right

Omg sorry, my bad! Fingers crossed we’ll both get to one of his signings soon

I’ve always loved this card, but now I can’t unsee the foot…

Back when they were released I thought the SM Hyper Rares were horrendous. And in comparison to BW/XY full arts, they are. However, over the years I’ve grown to like them more. Each card has its own unique texture pattern in Japanese and the rainbow color is very nice. They’re not my favorite cards, but I have learned to like them rather than actively disliking them.
