For everyone that doesn’t know, the Shadowless PSA 9 Chansey has the lowest pop in the holo set. I believe it was 63 recently and is now showing 67. For someone that keeps up with Shadowless cards, Chansey is hard to find.
Here are the recent sales that pop up:
Dec 10 - $565
Dec 16 - $700
There is one listed on eBay right now for $750. How do you feel about this card? It’s easily the least popular card in the holo set, yet it’s 2nd most expensive besides a Shadowless Zard at 9 bc of the low population.
Obviously supply and demand is huge here. Thoughts? Opinions?
Unless a bunch of psa 9 shdwls Chanseys come out of the woodwork, I don’t see this as a price spike that is bound to correct. I doubt you’ll be able to find one for anywhere close to $500 again if supply doesn’t change much.
To complete my Shadowless 9 set, I am just a Chansey away. Still, I can’t get msyelf to pay $500+ for it. Personally, it’s my least favorite of the Shadowless holos. Hence, why I just wont pay the premium to complete my 9 set. I have several in PSA 8 that I paid between $40-75 each for. Which is fine with me. Especially since there seems to be a plethora of what I would consider “weak” PSA Shadowless 9’s out there. One of my PSA 8 Shadowless Chanseys looks much better than the majority of the 9 examples that I have seen on ebay lately.
But I digress. I don’t see it dropping BELOW $500. And although I technically need one, I still won’t pay it for a Chansey. I’d rather just buy another PSA 9 Shadowless Blastoise (I currently have 3 that I got a for a steal in the last two years) while I can, and roll with my PSA 8 Chanseys. That’s just me though.
You want the Chansey? You gotta pay.
That’s how it is now. For a PSA 9 it seems steep but it’s just not available. At this point a 1st edition is cheaper.
I imagine most of these Chansey are in set collections. I can only imagine what a 10 would run.
Exactly my point. I think it’s solidly $500 rock bottom from here out. And although it’s the only 9 I am missing for my Shadowless set, I personally just don’t want it that badly, at least at that price point. Many people certainly do though. A PSA 8 Chansey that looks great,
works for me.
I’m all for gradual increases in price but 100% increases for another year doesn’t seem likely.
We had a strong run in 2017, but whether 2018 will be the same is anyone’s guess. My prediction, prices are not gonna see much change due to the supply of 1st ed base 9s at the moment. This year would be like post-March-2017, before the $16k Charizard auction, nice and calm.
Sorry I thought you were talking about 1st Edition 9s. Shadowless 9s should start approaching $500 by year’s end. We’re sitting in a supply increase at the moment that won’t last.
Chansey tends to be very difficult to grade for some reason. I think that, due to the foil coloration, or lack thereof, scratches tend to stand out more.
Venusaur is definitely top three. In terms of popularity, I’d say it goes:

Of course, the popularity list is not completely congruent with price, as Chansey and Clefairy have crazy high prices in 9s. Machamp is another example. Even PSA 6 and 7 variants of Machamp are incredibly pricey in comparison to many of the other species.
