I opened two boxes and didn’t get any alt art. I’ve seen sellers on fb open boxes so I’m predicting the pull rates for alt art is around 3 - 4 box for one.

I am a simple man, I like to buy Lagavulin 16 yr scotch.
and I’m a regular buyer. During the pandemic, I noticed it suddenly jumped to around $135, up from around $100 of what is usually cost. I asked the liquor store and they told me “Supply and demand. They haven’t been able to make as much.” I picked it up and went on my way. Half a year later and it now costs around $95 a bottle here.
It’s funny how I didn’t even think twice about the fact that a shop was now charging me a 30% premium over “MSRP” or whatever the regular price is. I paid market price and went about my day. I didn’t complain and say I DESERVE MSRP!!!
Suddenly when shiny cardboard is involved, people seem to treat pokemon cards like they’re water or gasoline and call it “scalping.” I’ll never understand this. You are not entitled to anything, especially the price of an item.
If supply is low, demand is high, the price of the item goes up. big brain stuff. give eevee heroes a week, buy the dip, call it a day
Nice to see that the normal V Eeveelutions are in the $5 each ballpark already. I think in 1 to 2 months, we will see a low price for card singles. Going to have to wait a little while for the alternate arts to go down in price.
The promo alt art Espeon that you get with with the box bundle seems to be falling in price on JP selling sites. Sold listings on mercari have fallen from 27k yen to 17k
I agree, when the set was first announced the limited box with the promo was selling around $800 Canadian, when the set released a few days ago it was then hovering around $600 - $700. I see from eBay it is now around under $600. Just have to wait it out. It is tempting just to pull the trigger but I’m happy waiting for another couple weeks and seeing what the price does. Been burned a few times buying too early and too much.
Absolutely stunning cards, the Pokémon company really knocked these secret rares out of the park. I loved all the little Eevee cameos!
Top 3 for me is
SowSow’s Espeon V special art, Beautiful artwork with SowSow’s signature art style, very smooth rounded shapes and incredible use of contrast.
KirisAki’s Glaceon Vmax special art. All the Pokémon in the artwork are so adorable, I love the depiction of Glaceon making an ice rink for other Pokémon.
Tara Akitsu’s Sylveon Vmax special art. This card’s artwork is an EEVEE PALOOZA, it’s a bit busy but there’s a lot to admire about the chaos taking place.
Honorable mention to You Iribi’s Leafeon V special artwork, it’s so cute playing in leaves. I love the usage of autumn colors on cards, I’m glad they were consistent with that color scheme on all of Leafeon’s cards this set.
KirisAki and You Iribi have made quite a few contributions to the hobby with their artwork for eeveelution cards over the years, I am very impressed with the variety of artwork showcased with the secret rares this set.
I have not purchased any boxes of the set yet, as I’d rather focus on older sets/promos right now instead of falling victim to the current marked-up prices (patience is a virtue for “ultra-modern.”), I do hope everyone who is able to get their hands on any cards/product has a ton of fun! I’ll definitely pick up binder pages full of the alt arts down the road.
Do we know who drew the artwork for the box set and sleeves? The style kind of looks like Midoro Harada but I don’t know how to dig up that kind of information?
Currious to people’s thoughts on the special box if it will drop any more. Would like to pick that up. Maybe with the booster boxes slowly coming down in prices they will also slowly bring the special box down? Or maybe when the 2nd wave comes out it will help drop the price?
Nobody knows when the best time to buy is, but one factor may be the Espeon promo and if it will be released in English. As opposed to the Kanazawa box promos for example, Espeon has a very good chance of being a promo or even a SR in English later on. If it is, maybe the box or at least the promo price will drop a bit. But maybe low supply and Japanese demand will be enough to sustain the prices, in which case it may be better to buy sooner.
Yes! I remember looking through these cards a while back when the set list was released and loving that there’s a cohesive theme/story going on across many of the cards of the set! It really gives me southern island vibes! I definitely hope Modern does this story telling more often moving forward!
I have started buying the special box. I like to collect such boxes due to their gorgeous box art (like Kanazawa/Klara box etc.). English version does not have similar boxes so I don’t have to wait. Anyway, I hate the yellow border on English cards.
For the regular booster boxes, I would wait for the price to drop further. Otherwise, I don’t mind skipping them and go straight for singles if I really want the cards.
Note on the special box featuring Espeon 189/S-P
The booster boxes are going for about $100 each ($200) and the promo Espeon is at $200 and falling.
So if your plan is to rip open the packs, paying $400 should be the maximum on the special box. You get deck sleeves and a card box as well. I am going to wait to see what happens with the promo price. If that keeps dropping and the special box remains at $400, I will buy the promo as a single card.
