@mtajaj32
I apologize for the short reply but Japanese cards weren’t cheap in the USA during the original Pokemania. I sectioned off my childhood binder with opened packs and Japanese cards were almost 10$ with tax. Granted this was at a gas station but 7-11 was the only store I knew of to get Japanese cards. Regardless the market of the original Pokemania and this current pandemic are not comparable. Many companies have/had stringent social distance requirements which hampered productivity. As far as I’m aware battle styles the current set is out there in the wild for kids to pick up for 4$ a pack though I don’t want to speak for every location.
The artwork is so unique and I absolutely think they did a great job in choosing a good variety of artists for the set, especially the alt art. I’m hoping I’ll be able to at least get a box of two of it. I know supply has been pretty held back lately but I’m hopeful for the following two weeks or so where the secondary market is flooded with them.
The classic “whatever dude” / “stop caring about things” response. I figured you could probably do a little better than that. I took a lot of time out of my life to write a respectful, diligent response about an actually important, life-relevant topic (not just “Charizard is better than Blastoise”), and your response is “lol I don’t care”.
I would think that you are your little discord buddies could come up with a better response, but it appears I’ve overestimated the lot of you.
I bought plenty of boxes at $100 and I am not looking back. I am happy to enjoy it at that price and it feels reasonable to me in order to open product now and enjoy it vs 6 months from now. I don’t know why more people don’t admit this - there’s nothing wrong with paying over MSRP. You’re paying market price.
I’m just glad we’re not with WOTC still where they are selling 12 packs of cards for $300 per booster in MTG. Now that is fuckin nuts
I agree everyone is free to buy over MSRP but what is wrong is that the benefits goes to scalpers and not the actual manufacturer that bring the value…
The more people buy to scalper and the less products will be available which is a vicious circle only benefiting scalpers.
Homie, if you think it’s entitled to simply want enough product to exist/sell for around what boxes normally would upon release then idk what to tell you.
I got jack shit. Must be karma for hating on the Poke Center kids and their mums and being a general 外人野郎. I didn’t even bother entering for a regular box.
See you next time for the 2021 Great Japan Post Website Crash.
Billy is going to pay an inflated price no matter what anyone on this forum says. You act like we make any difference on the price. Even if the whole of efour boycotted eevee heroes it wouldn’t make a dollar’s difference.
Why $18? You can get hidden fates for less than that.
20 years of plentiful supply and no one bats an eye. 1-2 years of supply/demand problem and everyone loses their minds.
$4 in 1999 could have bought you just about 4 gallons of gas. What does 4 gallons of gas cost today? Also again whats with the exaggeration on the prices? $15 this time? No one is saying there isn’t a supply and demand problem, but you’re comparing apples to oranges and exaggerating at the same time. Adults didn’t collect pokemon in 1999 like they do now because adults didn’t grow up with it like we did. Of course adults are going to start doing market analysis and paying absurd prices on premium items why wouldn’t they now that they have disposable income?
Anyways I don’t know what the issue is here. You’re upset that humans behave very poorly? This isn’t something new. Think Jingle all the way and tickle me elmo both in 1996. Think black friday people getting trampled and actually killed by rabid humans. What do you expect anyone here to do about these problems existing? Are you just venting? I’m really just confused at the objective here. We all know these problems exist during short periods of time where there is a frenzy of hype and not enough product to go around. TCPI is working on it, go complain to them but thats not going to help them open production facilities faster.
I like to be a pessimist too and focus on all the evil and problems in the world. But then I get up and enjoy my day and make the best of it. But if I were going to vent about problems to other people and impress their seriousness on others I would probably start with like helping inner city troubled youth or something that can actually be helped. Or like there are 40 million+ child slaves in this world, but this is the problem we all need to rally and revolutionize against: $6-$7 (oh look I didn’t exaggerate) modern pokemon packs that should be $3 (and were selling sometimes a lot less than that for a loss just over a year ago because no one cared) but because of a temporary and quite relatively insignificant supply and demand problem that no one here has any control over. We can role play as Atlas on any issue, but at the end of the day are we doing anything but complaining?
If it makes you feel less depressed I’ll go donate a box to my local children’s hospital now that you mention the children. It’s not that people don’t care, its that they’re tired of hearing people complain about prices for about the last 9 months or so as if anyone here can somehow magically make the problem go away. It’s just a tired old conversation that no one actually wants to engage in anymore because we already did it a hundred times. Heck I even made my pretend little stand on the internet against people scalping mcdonalds packs trying to tell people not to be idiots. Did that help at all? No people were still idiots in mass.
Pretty sure most everyone here has said “ouch my wallet” many times this year. There’s nothing to be done but just enjoy collecting in the hobby and stop focusing on these quite temporary negatives that really are just growing pains as pokemon tries to make room for all the incoming people.
Edit: Sorry everyone for engaging in thread derailment. Eevee heroes is looking beautiful! I’ll just be buying the singles that I need for my illustrator binders. I’ve got too much money to spend on them goals to buy sealed this time around.
To everyone disappointed at not being able to get their hands on Japanese boxes as the price they want, I highly encourage you to explore other Asian-language releases of this set. Here in Korea booster boxes cost about $20 (yes, $20!) and there’s always plenty to go around and then some.
The card quality is as good as English and if you’re after owning the piece of art more than you are a future return (because it won’t be as big as Japanese) it’s a fantastic road to go down on. Of course, you’ll struggle to find the boxes for those $20, but you’ll definitely pay a lot less than you would for Japanese.
Jet Black/Silver Lance are releasing here tomorrow and we’re also getting the Celebi promo. I’m hopeful we’ll get the Espeon VMAX too, but only time will tell!
