RIP Metazoo? (Sept 2024 update)

You and I share this opinion, but it’s a numbers game. If 90% of the collectors base is composed of greedy investors, the 10% that love MetaZoo wholeheartedly are irrelevant to public opinion. :person_shrugging:

True, can’t argue that

For the record I don’t think 100% of people in metazoo are people who are in it for money. That’s an non-nuanced and unrealistic opinion. But I do think it’s a lot of them, especially the ones who buy these “grails”. And I do think it’s near 100% for people who have been in it since the beginning.

“No closure & abandoning supporters” is a strange way to put it when the company is simply no longer financially viable. That was my point, most of the bs they pulled towards the artists and fans happened before this announcement. Discontinuing the product is a simple business decision that I’m sure they would rather not have made if they had more options available to them.

To me, if you genuinely love Metazoo, then you would love your $12k mothman even if new sets weren’t being made. The only thing that changes after this announcement is that financial future of the product is in jeopardy. Based only on what you said here, the guy was “one of the biggest collectors” until the product had no financial future, then immediately liquidated all the best stuff within like 24hrs. You can enjoy the cards and also be heavy into the investment/financial side, it’s not mutually exclusive. But I think this is more of a story of someone trying to salvage a failing investment more than a suddenly jaded fan.

This is just my opinion on it. We don’t have to agree.

It’s not that they are irrelevant. It’s just there’s nothing to say about them other then “wow, sucks for them.” Or maybe it doesn’t even suck because now they can acquire all the metazoo they want during the liquidation sale? The more interesting story about beanie babies isn’t about the kids who just enjoyed them for what they were.

In my head, we are saying the same thing but are getting lost in semantics. :+1: Public opinion is centered on the investors because they are the loudest group but also the majority. There is not much of a story for the 10% of people who liked MetaZoo, thus they are irrelevant to the public discourse that seeks to make broad generalizations.

More nuanced conversations about MetaZoo should incorporate non-investor opinions or make qualifying statements to suggest that there are important groups differences that aren’t being considered by the public discourse.

Saw this coming a mile away. Instead, I got in early on the Divorced Dads card game. I’m gonna get the House and retire, baby

Why do you think people invest in crypto knowing that it’s a Ponzi scheme?

Because they feel they can time it and get out before the crash.

Well… This is embarrassing for Metazoo. Even if the company is not dead, it pretty much is doomed now

Can you TL;DR this?

These are all rumors and not facts:

So the board of Metazoo was kicking Mike out of the company because of his mis-handling of the company. His pride was hurt and decided to post the letter on the discord pretty much “going down with the ship”. The board members are now pushing for maybe legal action against him for the damage that was done to what remains of the reputation of Metazoo.

Information was added that from the main distributor “Golden”. They said they hadn’t heard anything about the discontinuation of Metazoo.

That is insane if true. It might as well be dead if it isn’t. :skull:

Man the drama doesn’t seem to end…

I’ve heard that products were super delayed and release dates weren’t really even concrete. I wonder if it was money issues that were causing this or something else.

So is it real information or is it just trying to salvage values from hitting the floor? If there isnt a lawsuit actually filed I guess we’ll know. Hard to believe that a statement that literally killed their brand and value wouldnt be considered libel if it turns out not true.

I actually hope that it is true nothing would be sweeter than metazoo living on to its small dedicated niche fans and asshole Mike losing every penny hes made off it due to his neglagence and hotheaded reaction.

Even if this has truth to it does it matter? Didn’t they lose a bunch of artists and new sets were selling below cost? It just didn’t sound sustainable regardless of who is in charge.

The whole situation is like looking at roadkill and wondering if the deer’s hind legs are broken or still ok…

It’s dead either way.

At the end of the day, it was all just a cash grab after pokemon’s market share while no one could get products during 2020. It will always be known for that and no one can convince me otherwise.

'That party last night was unbelievable
… and it turned into a Metazoo party.
Wait till you see.
Filmed every[thing].
I’ve got a private filmer.
Everybody there was a big influencer.
They’re all opening - they’re all pokemon people.
They all love the Metazoo.
That was my whole reason, you know to tell Michael to do this because we gotta switch over the Pokemon people to Metazoo, ‘cause that’s our market.’

'at least some people listened and they’re both loving MZ and some even made a ton of money if they got in when I recommended it here.

A couple here hit over 100k and still have a high value collection.

Sorry if you missed the boat but such is life.’
