We’ll have to see how the current one does in this PWCC auction. The one after the $8k one sold for $6.5k and the winning bidder didn’t even pay hence it got relisted this auction.

This Gold Star hype is getting silly. I get how scarce it is, but I would never value it at twice Charizard value. I’d value it at maybe $5k. That’s just my personal opinion of course.
I could be wrong and it ends up being a $10k+ card in the near future, but I’d advise anyone looking to buy one to be cautious.
The Rayquaza Gold Star has been more popular since Charizard Gold Star has been released. There was a thread at PokeGym in maybe 2009 or earlier asking about prices of gold stars and Rayquaza has been more expensive than Charizard even since back then.
Its a different scenario for the Gold Stars as a mini-set that is dominated by a non-Charizard card but the market has been that way for at least 10 years.
I actually don’t understand the huge price gap between a PSA10 english and PSA10 japanese version of the Rayquaza GS. I mean, can you already “blame” nostalgia for the huge increase in the english version or was it just hyped so much that this huge bubble exists now?
Personally, I don’t care about the language on that particular card, more the great artwork and the card itself (and the japanese 1st edition is a nice bonus).
I just picked up a PSA 10 Gold Star Charizard for $1500. If you look at the sold items, you can see what they are going for. On top of that, not too many sold.

Ahhh you’re killing me here! I’ve spent the better part of this year collecting the PSA 10 1st Ed Japanese Gold Star cards 
, and I was hoping that the complete Gold Star set (minus Espeon and Umbreon due to… well, crazy prices) would command a good return on investment in time! Don’t think I’ll ever sell though, it is quite a beautiful set…

True, but you can still appreciate the art work and most of the Japanese cards look better, they just don’t have as much of the nostalgia appeal. But his statement proves their are Japanese collector’s amongst the English speaking heathens lol jk
