PSA Delay Heads Up

Just as another data point I received a voucher for a 30 day bulk over that went over by about 10 business days but I did not receive a voucher for my 5 day that went over by about 7 business days.

Just going to post this for those who may have missed this in another thread I wrote about the issue;

Not too long ago, probably a year or so, @garyis2000 made a comment about how many collectables PSA grades per year. I thought I remembered hearing him say that number was 1 million, which I thought was super high.

So I started tracking their numbers, here are the numbers I’ve pulled. Take into consideration I pull numbers daily at roughly the same time, even though their numbers increase even long after they have closed for the day.

November 2017 = 152,851
Daily = 5,095 (30 days)
Adjusted daily = 7,642 (20 business days)
Hourly = 764 (10 hour days)
Per Minute = 12 = 1 every 5 seconds
Projected yearly = 1,834212

December 2017 = 160,180
Daily = 5,167 (31 days)
Adjusted daily = 8,009 (20 business days)
Hourly = 801
Per Minute = 13 = 1 every 4.5 seconds
Projected yearly = 1,922,160

January 2018 to date = 152,789
Daily = 6,111 (25 days)
Adjusted daily = 8,488 (18 business days)
Hourly = 848
Per Minute = 14 = 1 every 4.2 seconds
Projected yearly = 2,240,892

Now I’m not defending PSA, just stating facts. As you can see, over the three months alone, they have significantly increased their output. PSA is simply going through a growth I don’t even think they could foretell over a 3 month period.

To give perspective, my middleman service in January is almost double my previous highest month!

Nice data Oz! That was really cool to read!

Also, for funsies, highest number I saw in one 24 hour period was 12,698.

Authenticating that many collectables in one 24 hour period is nuts.

Hourly = 1,270
Per Minute = 21 = 1 every 2.85 seconds…

Here’s what it looks like when you start a submission now. We’ve all been warned;

Logging update:

PSA is currently logging packages received 11-JAN

I would still think something like super express would be ok and still able to do a 2 day turnaround

My Express 5 day order delivered on the 23rd and hasn’t logged yet - my bulk order delivered the 22nd and hasn’t logged either. Another order delivered the 18th and logged on the 30th. Hope that helps give backlog time frame for others!

My 12 piece order that delivered Dec 8th, logged the 19th is still being processed as well*

I was told by PSA that if my grades were not in by this week, then i contact them. Still nothing. I hope February is the month, since they registered the cards on November 2nd 2017.

I received this email from one of the customer reps yesterday:

ā€œThe last update I received was Friday. We are working on packages from January 19th for Express orders. We are working on Regular packages from January 11th. We are working on Economy (20-day+) packages from January 9th. We are working on unmarked packages from January 5th.ā€

Psa received my 10 day 15 card order on the 8th of January.
It got entered it into the system and started processing on Jan 29th
And I just got the grades back today Feb 2.

Hope this helps for others who submitted around the same time.

I got a bit more information about the PSA delay. The last couple months were the largest in their history. I tried to get an ETA on when things would return to normal but couldn’t get anything definitive.

Also, their weekly order rate doubled. Typically they receive about 10,000 packages a week. Last month they received 20,000 per week. I was told one of the most significant factors was the Beckett migration. Numerous Beckett orders from July 2017 are still unprocessed. Hopefully this helps get a better understanding of the situation.

I heard the same information that orders have doubled from 10,000/week to 20,000/week. Orders will be entered in the system about 2 weeks after they are received and if the turnaround time isn’t clearly marked on the package it will take 4-6 weeks. I was told the only way they can catch up right now is if they don’t receive orders for 2 weeks.

Update:

My 10 day order tracking showed received on 12-JAN-18 and it was just logged into the system 02-FEB-18.

I think psa grading should be open. 7 days a week until they have caught up on all there orders… or atleast on Saturdays as well… this way they don’t leave customers waiting past there turnaround times

Did someone say vouchers ?

ooh, i wonder how many i can get for an order received in mid November 2017, and still not complete?

to be honest, i don’t really care if it is delayed. the more excitement will build up for me :blush:

I think there has been a big shift with their move to a new office, and new upper management roles and staffing changes. As well as a long holiday period build up, and the increase in volume as well.

It would be interesting to know what cards are being graded in such an increase? is it pokemon, or other sports cards?

Well that would make unhappy employees which would probably result in slower turn around times.

As long as they incentivize it I’m sure many employees would happily volunteer for weekend shifts. My company does it often where you get 1.5x your normal pay rate and usually free lunch.

They could make it work, but PSA is likely trying to focus heavily on maintaining their budget this year and cut costs after the move, which I’m sure wasn’t cheap.

One might argue that the extra cost is worth it to meet customer expectations, but if they already have more business than they can handle they probably aren’t concerned with losing business. Besides, where are PSA customers going to go if they’re unhappy? BGS? :see_no_evil:

They routinely have been.

My data shows they have been very active on Saturdays recently.
