It’s a matter of time man. I would say right now it would be a good choice to pick up a 9 if you can if you don’t have one. I really believe after seeing this that it could have great potential in passing up unlimited 10. Look at there current pop for both. They are both dead even. Unlimited has multiple print runs though. Shadowless only has one. It’s a very good chance unlimited 10 will pass up shadowless 9 in pop and that could be the deciding factor on the value change on which will be worth more.
Old cards will plateau but generally won’t decline in price barring an external event like a market crash or an economic recession. Prices are on a net trend upwards. The question is how slowly they creep upwards. Don’t throw too much money into something that you can’t afford to keep. Remember that collectibles are not very liquid assets. It can take weeks/months to find a fair price of liquidation for some of these cards.
Also keep in mind that this past PWCC auction was really hyped up due to the Pristine/1st being on sale along with shadowless 10 which went well over 5 figures. Prices were definitely inflated because of the rampant publicity/wider participation/uniqueness of the auction. So sellers are all upping their prices to PWCC’s last sales, which isn’t realistic. You can see examples of this everywhere. There was a PSA 9 Charizard that sold for $4k last month on PWCC’s auction block and people started advertising theirs’ for $3500-$4k immediately afterwards. Most of those cards will be sitting there for months before they sell. So ‘worth’ and ‘current market value’ are dependent on many considerations, not just PWCC’s last price.
Any word about current sales of PSA 10 unlimited? Current Shadowless 9 was sold at $1500. I was offered an unlimited 10 for $1550 3 weeks ago on an unlimited PSA 10. If price hasn’t changed then it looks like we are seeing what I thought would happen eventually (shadowless 9 overtaking unlimited 10). Unless that sales price doesn’t maintain or continue to rise but looking at the market it should continue to rise.
I have no clue why you care so much about this, but you’re not being objective and unbiased. You’re taking two random situations and trying to make a conclusion. Stop trying to be ‘right’ and just look at the data presented and then draw a conclusion.
PSA 10 unlimiteds have gone from $1400-$2000 from Aug 5th-Aug 22nd.
PSA 9 shadowless have gone from $450-$1100 from Aug 14th-Sep 15th. The only you posted sold for $1,100.
I don’t care if I’m right. I was asking a question and making a statement mixed with curiosity based on this threads topic. Thank you for the updated prices.
@silentoaths An easy tool for seeing sold price for a listing that has a best offer option is flippertools.com
I don’t care for the name but it’s super quick and easy. There’s alternatives as well.
Yes you should. I’m also in the market for a PSA 9.
PSA 8s are going for about $400 now which I think is a bit overpriced. I missed out on one yesterday trying to save $50 and someone elese bought it. PSA 9s are closer to the $1000 range, but I’ve seen a few sell for 750-850 which is what I’d like to pay.
To stay on the topic, I don’t think Shadowless 9 will ever overtake a unlimited 10 but it might be very close. It’s just not going to happen, in the same sense that any 1st ed 9 would not equal a 10 shadowless. Gem Mint will always be on top.
Something interesting has come to my attention.
So remember the $1099 PSA 9 Shadowless Charizard auctioned off by PWCC? You know, the one that broke the record for highest public sale figure of a Shadowless 9 by $350 and boosted the perceived value enormously?
Well, looks like it is being auctioned off again by PWCC in the upcoming October 19th auction. It is lot number 13435 or you can just search by name on the PWCC website. This is interesting because after that auction people decided to list their copy for $1000+ and since then three copies have sold for $840-$1100. Funny how perception of value can change based off of an illegitimate sale. Now, you can argue all day long that Shadowless Charizard 9’s are worth that and more and I won’t challenge you but PWCC tends to set price trends and I don’t believe we would have seen as sharp of a spike as we did had that auction gone differently.
I was unable to find the sale on the PWCC website so it does look like it was a non-paying bidder.
Edit: And another point to note, the card is being flipped. The last time it sold was on 05/24/17 for 669.88 which was a pretty high price at the time. It makes me very suspicious of shill bidding but I can no longer see the bid history.
Fun fact. All first editions from base set were once shadowless. Until that stamp was placed. I think it’s fair to say all first editions are shadowless but not all shadowless are first editions.
Given the recent sale of a shadowless 9 (albeit a really nice 9) for $2606 and that the highest unlimited 10 sale I could find was $2125, does anyone want to revise their original stance on this issue?
