Hello everyone , just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts on a PSA 9 1st base hitmonchan that sold for $1999.99 or best offer on ebay two days ago. Could one of the less desirable card have sold for this much or could it be a fake price spike ? I had see the card listed for far less than that before. Any thoughts ?
One of the things that makes hitmonchan valuable is that is was a meta card back then so more copies were played with than sat in collections. there are just less mint copies of them. also you should check to see what it actually sold for. there are websites for that
For future purchases, recommend you don’t gauge a “new value” for a fairly common card off of one “best offer” price.
Use watchcount.com to find out the best offer price that it actually sold for. In this case, $1200.
There are 0 copies listed. That isn’t exactly fairly common.
Don’t underrate Hitmonchan, he’s just under Blastoise and Chansey… and maybe it was a strong 9…
I would say that’s the case only for PSA 10 copies. For PSA 9, Venusaur is (or at least always was) above Hitmonchan and Chansey.
Yeah, watchcount.com shows that @smpratte sold that Hitmonchan for $1200.
As for why Hitmonchan is priced higher than other PSA 9s in the set, it has absolutely nothing to do with playability as @dragonwarrior suggests and everything to do with the fact that the PSA 9 pop is significantly lower compared to the other PSA 9 1st edition Base Set holos, so it’s a card people are competing for when it comes to completing a PSA 9 set. Supply and demand, yada yada.
Venusaur is definitely still in the top 3 in value in PSA 9 1st ed Base. In the last couple of weeks the card has sold for $1200 a couple of times and the most recent sale was for $1800, according to eBay sold listings.
Mewtwo and Alakazam have also done quite well lately, with PSA 9 sales around the $800 mark lately.
Has to do with the pop and how hard of a card it is to grade in a 9 or 10… i had a pack fresh graded one sent in last year and it pulled an 8.5. only issue on the card was a print line going from left to right near his feet & 60/40 centering left to right on the back of the card.
Sold for that much cause it was the only one on the market and the buyer just simply did not want to wait for another one priced at the usual $600 so he decided to grab it. Simple as that. When you have one card on the market and a buyer with deep pockets who doesn’t care about spending double of what the last sale was then you got the perfect scenario for a new record price.
I have an 8 on my ebay and I’ve had all sorts of people wondering why its above recent sales
Just a outlier sale. Nobody should think too much about it. Just be glad you weren’t the buyer… unless the buyer is able to regrade it a PSA 10… then I will be very jealous!
buy the card not the case
