Hello! Last time I was here I was debating between Japanese gold stars and grand party. Excited to say I’m an owner of a psa 10 grand party.
Any who, I recently have the luxury of starting to target 1st Ed base set holos. Particularly I’m looking at psa 8 in terms of price range. I’m curious where each of the holos fall in terms of price point ie most expensive to least expensive. Thanks E4 
Check out pokemonprice.com. Great way to compare historical prices on cards, although the prices themselves may be out of date due to how quickly prices are rising atm.
I would highly suggest going after Charizard first, as it’s always the biggest obstacle for completing a 1st edition base holo set. I think a PSA 8 sold for $4600 on forum today.
If you’re talking 8s (in well centered, thick stamps) I would rate in the following order:
Charizard > Blastoise > Venusaur > Ninetales > Gyarados > Chansey, after that I’m not sure. Plenty in the $350 and down range from there.
I feel like Ninetales for whatever reason is more difficult than the others to find well centered, and most seem like thin stamps.

It’s actually kind of an interesting question since the ranking is not the same across grades. Venusaur is easily the 3rd most valuable in PSA 9, but at PSA 10 it’s no higher than 5th. Without actually knowing anything about 8s =P I’d guess that after Charizard and Blastoise you’re probably looking at not that big of a gap in value between the most and least valuable of the remaining holos.
Don’t make the same mistake I did – listen to the poster who said buy more expensive ones first! I started casually buying PSA 8 & 9 for my set around two years ago. It wasn’t a top priority so I mainly bought when I noticed a good deal. Well now I have 10 holos which is great but those 10 cost less than it would be to get a clean 8 Charizard today. And the Charizard has risen in price much more % and net wise than the others. Blastoise as well.
Great point! I think in 10s Chansey and Hitmonchan out-price Venusaur.
