good question. i’d like to know too. Only thing i can think of is that the proportion of the image that is covered by holo is signficant compared to usual holos therefore making it more prone to scratches and hence harder to get a psa 10 grade. Other examples of this are metal energy from neo genesis 1st ed selling for a very high amount in psa 10.
Conversely, al lot of the holo’s in gym challenge, where the image of the pokemon is large and there is less holo coverage, has psa 10 pop that are greater than their 9 counterparts, consistently and some instances a signficiant difference (giovanni’s machamp, koga’s ditto).
And let’s not forget about those pesky “factory holo scratches” . . . I’ve owned at least three copies that were pack fresh, but had no chance at a 10
Does anyone still have a link for that yanma 10 that sold for $~3k? I searched all the forum posts mentioning yanma and all I came across was a listing from 2015 that is not the one I was thinking of.
I recently graded two of these one being a 9 and one being a 10. I keep 9’s for myself and have no idea how to price the 10. Obviously wanting to get the most I can out of it, but also understanding that it’s ridiculous value is due to it’s ridiculously low pop. Every new 10 that is graded will devalue itself to an extent I would imagine. Though at POP 4 we may not have hit that supply point where price will fall?
I remember the dude posting it on instagram that his listing for $3k was up for maybe 30 mins before someone bought it. But he graded that one himself which made it pop 3 and I’m guessing the other 2 are never going to be for sale so someone really needed it to complete a set probably. Just list it high and see what kind of offers you get
I had 3 offers north of $1k before I went to auction. I countered all at $2,500 and had in my mind that the first offer that put $2k in my pocket after fees would take it. So roughly $2100 PP or $2300 on eBay I would have accepted. Although I was sweating a bit there I was sure it would near at least $1500 by the end. I just stopped looking at 25 minutes out or so when it was $660. Glad a few solid buyers got in a real bid war though. One of the first losers was someone who bought another for ~$400 a couple years back in a private deal. The winner was a solid repeat customer so this was a very legit sale and just for future searchers, the card was a 0.99 no reserve auction and sold today for $2,286.
