Do the Poncho/Cosplay Pikachu boxes retain value or appreciate quickly? Do they have large print runs?
Yes they retain their value. No they don’t appreciate quickly (depending on your definition of quick) , but when they do increase it is often a bit of a spike, not just $1 or something.
Yes, the print runs are large but the are largely absorbed by people who like/collect Pokemon here in Japan, but there is no wholesale pricing for them so people sitting on QTY who got them cheap, everyone has to pay full retail for them. Lots of guys are selling for only $5-6 profit after eBay/PayPal fees though for a long time.
Pokemon has gotten cheaper since Pretend Magikarp/Gyarados box set. They generally only have one full art now, some even have no full arts now. The number of full arts and the cuteness and popularity of the characters have a huge impact. The Skytree one took a pretty long time to sell out considering it was Rayquaza.
If a good box set comes out and you can get them cheap (price and shipping) I would stock up though, but it has to be a good box set. Something like Metamon or Mimikyu poncho/cosplay with 1 full art for the smaller cheaper boxes (like Mario) or 2 full art for the bigger boxes and I would think that would be worth stocking up on. But it is something you might have to be willing to sit on.
Something like the Alola Vulpix Poncho Pikachu box I would’t stock up on as there are no full arts. That’s a lot of money for 2 holo’s. Then when you try to get the increased price for it, it makes it really expensive.
What about the team skull pikachu?
And how high do you think the mario pickachu box can go?
mario pikachu is where i see the most money because it brings in fans of both pokemon and mario. but this is just my opinion, i could be completely wrong.
I was at the Yokohama Pokemon Center 2 days ago and they had the Team Skull back in stock. I almost picked some up, but passed as I have better things to buy this month, as in I think they will move a lot quicker and be higher margin. I like the cards, I don’t like the deck box sleeves. I think good longer term, but I would want a pretty good price now.
Future prices- I have no idea how high things can go. I would be careful as Mario and Pokemon is a pretty good combination. So you have the potential to have high prices but also more stock held by people thinking it will go up as well.
edit- If you are buying Mario Pokemon at old prices I would say buy, but at what I think are new prices I would be careful, pretty sure they are $50 plus shipping. I guess if you can buy for that price without shipping it’s not so bad, but $50 plush shipping and then the fees to re-sell when they increase makes it a longer term hold. I would guess a 1-2 years at least to make money.
I know I have 10 or so boxes just sitting in a closet for when they spike or I want some extra cash for something else, it would have been a lot more if I had extra cash but I had to much money tied up in other product at the time. I think there are a fair amount of people like me in Japan, everyone had seen the other box hit $120 plus by that time, so it wasn’t a secret boxes could increase huge in 1-2 years. I think as prices keep increasing more stock will keep hitting the market for a while making it hard to get a decent return for 1-2 years unless you have a dedicated client base already and thus get premium prices.

Follow PokeBeach, they will have all the upcoming releases for any pokemon/pokemon center product.
You have all of them as of this date marked down, I would imagine they continue the path coming up, its a good idea to pick them all up at release, the old ones will inflate very high as more and more new ones are released.

Maybe you can mail them back to my place in Sydney if you want. i don’t have many of the charizard ones left, and looks like they have gone up in price pretty quick since Pokemon company only stopped distributing those a few months ago.
These decks will all probably become like the Pikachu 15th anniversary deck boxes. So i guess hold onto them or grade and save space lol…
People basically just want the cards mostly.
