They have just cancelled todays drop of merchandise because the site could not handle it. It will definitely help fund the museum, but only once if it works lol.
So if we ordered from Pokémon center day of promo, which most of us received without a promo card in last week, we just email customer support? That would be great.
Watching the daily price increase of the promo is turning into quite the adrenaline rush. Despite the brief and shoddy distribution there does still seem to be a relatively healthy supply out there, with plenty of daily listings being added, but the demand for the card is astonishing. Which, in itself isn’t surprising, but it makes you doubt how much effect another release or 2 would even have at this point, if done in the same way. They’d really have to go full Illustration Charizard mode to stand a chance at making a dent.
My post was just an observational commentary on real-time events, not intended as a reaction to things happening in an unexpected way. The points you made aren’t news to anyone. That said, ‘astonishing’ means very surprising, which this wasn’t, so ‘phenomenal’ would have been a better word to use to avoid confusion!
Releases like this are always going to be interesting because the modern market moves and changes so quickly. One big difference between buying cards and products in 2023 versus buying them in 2017 is that colossal, overwhelming demand for unique and quality releases like Van Gogh is now a virtual guarantee, whereas supply has become an even more significant variable in how accessibility and market movements play out, and is also the most difficult variable to predict the outcome of.
I think it’s fair to say that some of us predicted that there would be a much larger or more consistent stream of supply of Van Gogh Pikas than there has been, and I for one definitely overestimated the efforts TPCi would put into its release - at least so far, anyway. Whether they didn’t anticipate the demand or just simply weren’t all that bothered about drowning us with supply I guess is up for debate.
