Pokemon Trainer Deck B Misty's Deck

Recently came into possession of one of these sealed decks. Curious what people here think - if it is worth it to open the deck and get the 60 cards graded or keep the deck sealed. Was able to obtain the deck for a reasonable price so breaking even isn’t really my worry its maximizing the investment. Let me know your thoughts.

I’d say it’s worth about tree fiddy

Keep it sealed unless you specifically wanted to add these graded cards to your collection. You’ll always have the choice to open it later.

I would definitely keep it sealed.

I believe the Blastoise is hard to get a 10 on, would only be worth opening if everything gets a 10

Out of 26 graded there are 14 10s, so they grade well out of the box. But it’s tough to find a complete set and/or sealed deck.

Depends what you bought it for. Will you get more enjoyment out of seeing a sealed product sit on your shelf, or will it bring you more joy to rip into a 20 year old product?

How much are these things going for nowadays? I very much regret selling the couple I had.

There was one that ended in auction at the beginning of November for $5300 on ebay. PokeRev just recently opened one on his YouTube channel in which he said he paid $8000.

Lowest price currently on ebay is at $9,900 so you could say they are going for anywhere between $5300-$8000.

@cardstockpile, I never pulled the trigger when these were more affordable 5+ years ago. Personally, I think Trainer Deck A and B have the makings of a great long-term investment. Rarity, Scarcity, and History. Plus being sealed offers more utility to buyers who want the sealed product or who want to gamble and open it.

KEEP IT SEALED!

I have no idea what the prices on these are now but I know that back in 2018 PSA 10s of the common cards in the set were around $50-$100 each yet the box itself was only around $500, making it very worthwhile to open them. Looking at PSA’s APR page the last PSA 9 Blastoise sold for over $1,800, so if the box is about 4x more than it was in 2018 it’d still be very worthwhile opening it up to grade the cards if you’re in it for profit.

Edit: Woah, looks like the last box to sell hit $5,300. Crazy. What I said above may still apply but certainly not as much as it did 2 years ago lol

Thanks for the feedback all - keeping it sealed for the time being  @butchdawg32,I agree with that sentiment!
