I don’t watch the show but just because it’s Pokemon and you are in it I will be watching. Hopefully this is another great exposure for the hobby and community! So excited!
As for the show, I’ve seen a bunch of episodes. Leave it on as noise in the background in the evening. While a lot of it tongue in cheek it is neat to see the unusual items they feature on the show. Kind of like American Pickers. My enjoyment is more derived by the items and some of the history behind them and less on the actual characters or “realness” of the episodes.
The way I see it, this only helps the hobby. Very interested to see who they bring in as an “expert” and what he thinks he knows.
My guess is Gary walks in the shop and in his anime voice says, “Hey what’s up losers! I know you guys don’t carry any Pokemon cards so I figured maybe you’d wanna overpay for my complete Base through Fossil sets! Hahaha!”
Chumlee chimes in, “Rick, hold on a second, those Base cards aren’t even first edition. First edition would earn a lot more. I know because I came across a bunch of Pokemon cards when I was on eBay looking for more sneakers.”
Rick, now uncomfortable about his limited knowledge of the cards, calls in Joe, a sports cards shop owner deemed expert. Joe and Gary go back and forth about projected value, current value, the fact that the Jungle cards are No Symbols, and the Base cards are Shadowless, a term Gary explains he got PSA to recognize himself.
By this time our “expert” realizes he bit off more than he could chew and Rick has no choice but to hand over $90000 cash to Gary. Gary smiles, laughing his way out the door remembering he has 273 more copies of the sets ungraded.
Awesome stuff Gary! I can only imagine how exciting that must have been but I gotta ask was it at all intimidating or anything?! I think we should take some friendly bets on what you brought in for the guys and then see who was closest when it airs!
Honestly, I have no clue how it came out. It was like a blur.
The whole segment took about 3 hours to complete. It might be a long segment though. Most the shows feature 3 main items. They list them in the guide. The guide on this one only shows two featured items.
I’m really worried that I looked goofy/nerdy/nervous. I have a habit of smiling a lot anyway so expect to see my dimples.
The whole reason for doing it was to bring more attention to our hobby. I’ve seen ratings for this show from 2-7 million per episode. They were hoping to attract more millennials which is why they wanted a Pokemon segment. It should get good ratings.
