i’m not talking about palworld copying ideas. i’m talking about it copying assets.
But don’t a lot of games do that? Take assets that work from other games to make their game the best.
Being the first is one thing but being the best is another.
Me personally rather see this game do good because Pokemon need competition. Would make the devs work harder. Instead of reusing animations or backgrounds.
Assets in this context are the literal files from the game and more specifically the 3d models. No, games don’t do that typically without having a license because you are exposing yourself to a huge copyright infringement liability.
Thanks for informing me. If that is true where the lawsuits? Or is it cuz they both Japanese devs nothing happens?
The models look like they were taken and slightly modified so it’s not a 1:1 carbon copy. That makes proving it it court harder. It’s up to TPC/Nintendo lawyers whether they think there is sufficient grounds and if it’s worth their time. Keep in mind the game has been out for 4 days. We also don’t know if there is already communication behind the scenes between the companies.
Some of these similarities to crabs, worms, birds and shells are a little too close for me to suspend disbelief anymore. Dragon quest just blatantly ripped off real life and I expect they will be sued to oblivion.
A clean, functional, complex, and fun open world pokemon game has such a wide appeal. That makes perfect sense. But I’m curious. How many people think pokemon would be improved with the inclusion of guns and shooter elements? Like outside of an initial fascination, does this kind of game have staying power? I’m terribly out of touch with gaming, so if this concept has already been proven, please educate me, but to me looking in from the outside, it just seems like a fleeting novelty in terms of that specific aspect.
Games not out. It’s just early access.
Game still in development. Apparently Devs are getting death threats. Which is insane in my opinion.
Pokemon will sell no matter what. Tbh I assumed ppl forgot about Palworld and it’s trailer. If they win their court case what will happen? Would ppl still be butt hurt? Cuz the devs did take certain monsters or pals off because gamefreak or Nintendo asked them to.
And take it with a grain of salt. Where I got my info from YouTube journalist lol
Really curious to see how this all plays out with this game. It’s been very popular over the past few days. Wonder if Nintendo/game freak does anything. I personally have not played it but I keep hearing about it everywhere
No thanks.
My buddy was streaming it and while watching it gave major legends arceus vibes. Some of the pals are literally ripped from pokemon it seems like the one that literally is a straraptor lol
Looks fun though! I remember seeing a trailer like 3 years ago! Development took forever!
I am loyal to no corporation (except maybe KFC) so I don’t care about plagiarism.
Is the game fun? Yes
I hope this kicks Game Freak into some sort of innovation overdrive instead of pumping out the same watered down thing every year
I am currently playing a sad song on the worlds smallest violin for a multibillion dollar company who got their monster ideas stolen
I don’t do shoot up games more a strategy person. However, making a profit off another person’s creativity and art…Not cool.
Haven’t Pokémon themselves copied just a bunch of animal designs? Lucky for them, these were not created by a someone who can claim copyright.
The question is why hasn’t it yet? I am also curious because the initial showcase for the game was done 2 years ago where they did show a lot of the Pal designs. Given the reputation of Nintendo and how ruthless it is protecting its IP wherein they have already sued creators for featuring modded content on YT and also having insanely strict guidelines for tournaments which basically has killed the SMASH competitive scene, the company seems to be anti-fun.
It’s no doubt that Palworlds are heavily inspired form a lot of successful IP’s (besides Pokemon, I think it borrows heavily from ARK as well). Heck if you go on the company portfolio, look at the catalogue of games, the others also seem to take heavy inspiration from successful IP’s. One of them looks straight up copy of the new Zelda games. So why hasn’t anyone taken any action? Seems like this game is here to stay (looks like it for now) and it really takes the best concepts of several games and delivers it in a nice little package that people can enjoy and have fun.
Cheers!
I assume they were initially avoiding invoking the Streisand Effect while it was in development, but the game is making some serious money now. I would expect some sort of lawsuit is inevitable, especially with the asset evidence presented above in the thread. It sure seems pretty egregious.
