I know these cards get a lot of hate and I don’t mean to pile on, but man do these cards just not work for me. I think they look like fake cards you’d buy on Etsy. The awkwardness of the art, the oddness of the backgrounds, the fact it’s the three Kanto starters, it just all feels custom to me in the worst way. I find them so bizarre.
I am a fan. The set reminds me of Shining Legends in almost every way.
I wish there were a few more Radiant cards though.
But the Ditto is just amazing.
It seems nice and like @smpratte mentioned, the set may bring in some people who previously didn’t collect. The silver borders of the Japanese cards definitely look nicer tho.
Think its a great little fun set! The radiant starters and mewtwos are great for me!
I’m a big fan of this set. The artwork is extremely unique for the TCG and as an avid POGO player the art also speaks to me lol.
I love the Ditto peel cards- they’re a really cool concept that’s not just chasing another full art (as much as I love FAs).
I’m an art collector at heart, and a lot of the art in this set I’m completely in love with, tying back into the game in some way or another (the Blissey, the Pokéstop, etc), and it feels refreshing. As for the stamps, I’ve seen a lot of people dislike them, but they’re one of my favorite additional card features, so the fact that the whole set has them? An instant bonus imo.
Maybe I’m just too easy to please, but I got the shiny Eevee box, and opening it was some of the most fun I’ve had opening packs since I was a kid.
do you have a picture of the error?
I think I’m the same, just easy to please! Playing pogo from the beginning, I’m just excited to see a crossover set. The art compared to other sets isn’t as diverse, but you can tell they tried to integrate the ideas/experiences from the game into the set. Basically for what its supposed to be I think its solid, but for more serious tcg collectors, especially those who don’t play the game, I can see it not being as desirable.
I wish it had a couple more alt arts to be honest. The set is solid though imo. Lots of stuff for people to pull and if you are a Mewtwo fan, the set is definitely for you. The commons/uncommons/rares have some new directions that I like, specifically the Magikarp and Snorlax arts.
Arita’s Gyarados is dope. Sowsow starters! Wish we’d gotten charmander too, but at least there’s a squirtle! The ditto peel cards are fun, and an interesting idea. Generally, I like it because it’s a small set.
Right, it makes me feel like I’m back in 2016 again- I love it.
I can definitely understand it not being your thing if you never got into PoGO, but as you said, I think it does a good job for what it is.
The set as a whole, for me, its average at best. But the set has a couple of cards which i totally love (the conkeldur and mewtwo ALT arts).
There’s something about that art direction, kinda like the AR aesthetic that really connects me to pokemon GO. Really wish there were more cards like these 2.
Japan got booster boxes but not English and the pull rates of english is totally RNG compared to japanese and lots of quality control is lost in english cards, i really want to complete the set, ie the screenshots of the trailer for pokego but english international really have to step up a lot to catch up the japan, its just much more of a gamble compared to japan lol.
From a competitive perspective, this set is a huge breath of fresh air and will make Worlds very interesting with the many different viable cards. From the Ditto peeling thing to the great artwork, I don’t think there’s anything I don’t like about the set…aside from the horrendous yellow background on Radiant Blastoise and the convoluted release of the English products. The Japanese have that part down.
i think the set is pretty solid. im also not a huge fan of the radiant cards. i honestly think they’re beating shiny pokemon to death. every set feels like there is some new reintroduction of shiny charizard. other than that, i wish they would’ve replaced the 7 rainbow rare cards with literally anything else.
it’s weird to me that everyone complains about sets being too big and then a smaller set with amazing art comes out and now everyone’s complaining about it being lackluster. “everyone” could be conflating two different, high volume groups of people with one large group flip-flopping, so maybe that’s not a correct representation of the situation. from my perspective, english always feels like a casino; lighting money on fire and getting nothing out of it. i’d always suggest japanese, especially for special sets bc you get a booster box instead of an overpriced etb with terrible pull-rates
We used the ETB to draft last weekend and almost everybody wants to draft again with it this weekend.
For playing there are some very nice cards in there.
Lunatone/Solrock (cheap and fast deck) Magikarp/Gyarados/Ditto (have been waiting to play this mechanic again). Ditto also goes very well in a Mad Party deck.
I love the abilities of stage 2 Charizard/Blastoise/Venusaur .
Venusaur radiant not to bad at all.
Alolan’s Raticatie worth a try to make it work.
For such a small set I am happy there are several cards you can use to really play a good game.
We didn’t use the V pokemon so I don’t even know what their attacks are LOL.
I dont think it will get any POGO players into the cardgame.
I just opened a regular ETB for this set as I do with every set that comes out just to “participate” in the new release, but I can’t say I was overly excited for this set.
I really like how this set is much smaller, instead of going into another roughly 300 card set off the backs of Brilliant Stars and Astral Radiance, however there are very few cards I was excited for in this release. It was pretty much alt art Mewtwo, secret Ditto, or bust, which I definitely did not pull either one of. I got to see my first radiant Pokemon in person though by pulling a Blastoise! Radiants are okay but I think I personally would have enjoyed if they kept on with the Amazing Rare line instead as they indeed are really eye catching in person.
Honestly I think this set shines mostly in having some good artwork in general. Many of the holofoil artworks made me spend more than a glance and I think my favorite artwork overall was the Slowbro, which made me feel things.
I still have a PC ETB coming but I’m planning on keeping it sealed at this point and I’ll just buy the singles I want later.
I think there was a lot of potential, especially after the Classic Collection in celebrations. Pokemon Go has some cool concepts that I wish had been captured in the cards, like the shadow and purified mons. Seems like this set will just go down as the one with Slaking and Exeggutor chase cards.
sowsow starters though.
Not bad but not a fan either, I think Pokemon cards have lost their charm with the weird foiling they’re coming up with instead of using the usual cosmos/star holos, but that’s me.
