What set is completely slept on right now?

So, to start this off, I´m not seeking advice. This is just to post your thoughts on what set right now should be way more popular than it is, and why. This can be anything from Base Set to Mega Evolution.

I´ll kick it off then. For me it´s Battle Styles. I neglected the set for a long time, because everybody seemed to think it was trash, and, for a big part it is, I guess?

But, here´s the thing; it contains a Tyranitar Alt Art, with some very good artwork. What´s more is that this card has a very low POP for modern cards (somewhere in the 5000´s). The sealed boxes go for under 300, which is less than pretty much any SV set. It just has the makings of a set that should be worth way more.

Just to be clear, this is not advice. Use your own sources and come to your own conclusion.

VMax Climax and VStar Universe are SO good, possibly the best high-class sets next to Tag Team All Stars. TPC did a great job (re)printing them to the ground, so no one’s really looking at them because they haven’t moved much. The English equivalents (including the trainer gallery) are also still very affordable.

Second this ^ I’d even count other sets that aren’t in the same league, like shiny treasure ex.

SWSH delivered plenty of art that is so good that you could almost call it ‘objectively’ s-tier, for example the gold god cards in VStar. The sets on the JP side in particular are undervalued for the age-old reason that we’ve reverted once again to being in a situation where you can buy the JP version of the same art at a fraction of the cost of the English.

>It’s been long enough that people are getting nostalgia for Battle Styles

Jokes aside, I always thought that the HGSS sets always went a little unappreciated for what they had on offer.

Yeah, Japanese sets are weird like that. Eevee Heroes is another example.

Agreed. The Legends/HGSS sets are not seeing a boost like other things, I think. I went hard into that when I first started collecting seriously again, and while there’s a small boost, It’s not satisfying like, say, Vs Set’s boost has been. Alas, Vs Set, you sweet prince… Your day has finally come! (Until the retrace. :worried: …maybe)

Every Diamond & Pearl set is slept on. They are really fun and engaging sets, yet people only ever take the top highlights and move on.

Neo Discovery has been underrated for 24 years.

In general I find middle-era stuff like Diamond and Pearl holos (as one example) have scarily little interest on my ebay as a seller. It’s quite amazing how overlooked vintage - mid-era sets are whilst modern is sky-high

I agree HGSS is a pretty undervalued set I picked up this card for 50$

this is an unpopular take and i feel like as someone that grew up with them, the art was lacking so much more in this era

Like said before : VSTAR Universe and Shiny Treasure Ex

Vstar universe is the best set ever produced by TCGP and there is not a close second, so it’s obviously slept on because of the present availability

Although roaring skies has had a massive price hike I still think it is the BEST set of the XY era, and compared to AO it is slept on. In my honest opinion it is analogous to ex deoxys in terms of selection and set quality.

Oh that’s a cool topic to think about!

Honestly there are a lot of sets that I feel ppl don’t appreciate much but are actually super cool. Here are a few that came to my mind.

  • Team Magma Vs Team Aqua: it has beautiful RR cards and it’s a cool overall theme.
  • Pokémon Go : I might be alone with this but I think the rainbow cards are beautiful especially the Dragonite. And the SAR Mewtwo is beautiful too. Another thing is the peelable cards which turn into a ditto and the cool radiant cards of Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur.
  • Crimson Haze: it has so many cool cards in it like the Eevee AR, Growlithe connecting artwork with Perrin, Blood Moon Ursuluna EX SAR and the beautiful Greninjia EX SAR.

Definitely. The best thing about Neo Discovery are actually the boosterpacks. They are in a class of their own.

Agreed. I actually forgot about this era myself. I didn´t really like it (like Black & White), but the holo´s are beautiful every now and then.

Rising rivals one of my favorite sets or platinum shiny sub set

I agree on Rising Rivals! Those were the only packs I opened from 2004-2015. Rising Rivals was my mid-era peek back into the hobby in 2009. I pulled the Flying Pikachu secret rare holo. I still have it & it’s actually one of the first cards I ever graded.
