Official Nintendo Promo Cards

My OG collection is with their respective collections (ie. pikachu is with other pikachu). I think you know the full set. But I will check to see if there are indeed others.

OK I checked today and sadly I do not have as many of the Johto sticker cards ---- but that is ok! I have the 3 big ones!! Ho-oh, Lugia, and Bellossom!

Thank you for the proof! This gets Gen 2 to 12 different confirmed cards.

Very cool, three Gen 2 is still a pretty good amount from what I’ve seen.

If you ever wanted to trade or sell for that Bellossom I have plenty of vintage for trade!

Here’s my update, huge thanks to @ad911 and @Kritch4dayz for working with me and helping to expand my collection. Both are great sellers, with excellent communication.

Thanks to both I was able to add Ho-oh and Hoot Hoot.

I’m just short Bellossom and Ledyba for what we believe would be a complete collection.

In my periodic eBay/Mercari searches, I found an interesting artifact. Who likes old gummies?

Yep, that’s right. A sealed box. But I would imagine this only contains one card. Still kinda neat.

I plan to keep my bellossom, and want the few im missing. But that sealed box you have pictured, it seems that it may come with a free (poster paper) tcg playmat inside and NOT the sticker card!??

Ive seen a couple different variations of what was included with these boxes. I wonder if this is where the playmat that some people cant find the source came from, i think it might have a specific card print run that may be different from other releases. Anyways, the window for these promo cards seems to have been pretty short.

I would almost bet that that particular $1000 fruit snack does NOT have any sticker card in it, as surely the box would tell you so and I don’t see any box having 2 different prizes in it.

I don’t have much of any information to add to this thread, but sure happy to come across it. I’ve been cataloging my childhood collection that’s been in storage for 20 years and came across 10 of these cards.

They’re in pretty good condition. This is the only place I’ve really found much info on them.

I managed to 'catch ‘em all’ for these promos. Here’s the complete set of Gen 1 and Gen 2. I was able to add the Ledyba which finished the set.

Some notable market observations over the last year:

  • Gen 2 is still considerably rarer, but more of these have come to the market the last six months then for considerable amounts of time prior.
  • There is still a schism in the naming for online markets (Betty Crocker Pokemon Promo vs. Nintendo Official Promo 1998) where the same number of listing are in each search, but majority of the time Gen 2 is listed with mention of ‘Betty Crocker’.
  • Price has moved up considerably. Gen 2 promos can often average $50-$200, though I am unsure how much is being sold in that range currently.
  • Pikachu is the clear stand-out of Gen 1 in terms of pricing, while Lugia and Ho-oh seem to be similar for Gen 2.

It took me a year of effort to complete this set, and I’m still hopeful that it gets its’ recognition. These promos, if printed in 1998 (where’s all my CSI level experts from the debunked CGC prototype scandal?), represent the first showing of Pokemon in North America, since Base Set came out in Jan of 1999. I see much more mentions of the KFC card set which is also dated in 1998, but doesn’t offer Nintendo branding, and features a full-set of ‘miniature’ cards per order, unlike the ‘random’ distribution method used by Betty Crocker & Nintendo.

I was reading through this “Guide to Vintage Pokemon” by Fanatics, which quite frankly owes a great thanks to the minds here at E4, and I noticed that when it finally comes to Pokemon in America, it starts at 1999 and the trainer decks and then eventually Base set. No mention of any promos from 1998. Ideally, if PSA were to grade them it would help popularize these nearly 30 year promos, though I am unsure if anyone has even attempted. At the very least, it would be nice for these to have their footnote in Pokemon promo history, not unlike Cardass, Topsun, the Corocoro vending series.

Congrats on the set! Im blown away you have been finding them because they are never around when I am looking for gen2. The whole middle row and even togepi are always shocking to see.

Hi. Is anyone selling NM versions of these cards? My son and I are working to complete the two sets. Thank you in advance.

Hoping someone can help a bit. Found this Ho-Oh card in my collection. Any idea what the value of this card is? I know from this thread there arent many of these around, but i dont know if its worth getting graded or not.

Somewhere between $10-50 depending who wants it. Dont think many are looking for them graded currently, but i could be wrong.

I have this card and I can’t really find any info on it. Have you seen any graded ones? Trying to figure out its value
