My personal MtG x Pokemon crossover - got some Magic the Gathering artists to draw Pokemon versions of their cards!

Not mine, but I saw this neat card pop up on my feed

These are so cool. Idk if anyone has asked, but can we commission one for an artwork we like? Id enjoy one for my collection!

The only thing that impresses me more than the creativity is the volume you’ve managed to acquire. Would make an amazing binder

Ahh envious, I still haven’t been able to get Daniel Gelon for a commission, hoping I can get one someday!

Generally yes, you should be able to if you look up the artist you want and contact them. Depends on the person though. Some only take commissions in person at shows though, and others may have a long queue.

Thanks! There’s actually many with bigger collections than me. Some artist proof collectors make entire commander decks (100 cards) out of only sketched artist proofs, it can get intense (and expensive). My ultimate goal is to get the original 151 for a binder.

The blue Haunter and green Gastly are amazing, and the Gengar to finish the trio.

I’m also constantly amazed how you keep up with new ones while they simultaneously always look unique and awesome, in this batch i’m especially loving the sol rings and giovanni :ok_hand:

Curious how long did it for Dan Frazier?

I messesged his manager guy Mark and paid for some cards about 3 weeks ago but havent heard anything and avoided giving me an estimate when i was paying.

I know Mark is busy in Amsterdam now but i emailed him 8 days ago and just ignored it.

Yeah Amsterdam might contribute to it. Artists are always tricky to schedule. I have a general attitude of ‘pay and forget about it’. If I know the artist is super slammed I might not even check back for 4-5 months.

Dan has actually always been one of my faster ones. The first time I messaged Mark about a week before Magic Chicago and it was ready at the show for me. The second time I got lucky and he was between a few assignments for Wizards so turned it in about 2 weeks. But I think I was quite above average. It’s usually closer to 2-3 months for most artists I’ve used.

One ‘hack’ for artists who attend cons is to try asking a commission a few weeks before the con. Sometimes it motivates them to finish in time for the con.

Thank you, for the insight im in no rush or anything just wish they would have told me upfront when i asked something like itll be aprox 3 months. Then id have just left it alone.

The email from 8 days ago was to work with another artist so the just ignoring me has me thinking mark is juggling alot of cards, requests and customers so just didnt wanna wait months to have it forgotten.

Yeah, communication with artists can be hit or miss lol. I’d just wait a little and then contact them again once they’re back, probably too many requests in Amsterdam.

I’ve gotten a lot of proofs over the last 20 days, so I’m actually going to break this into 2 posts to give artists their proper attention

Brushland by Bryon Wackwitz. I imagined the pumpkins became Pumpkaboo and added an Ivysaur playing with them.

Giant Growth by Sandra Everingham. She made a gigantamax Ratatta and a terrified Raticate for scale haha.

Questing Beast and Elesh Norn. Questing beast is a very useful MTG creature who dodges all kinds of damage prevention. I really liked Igor’s posing of Pheremosa, it’s the only pokemon I can think of with a similar threatening aura as Elesh Norn lol.

Lastly for now, it’s the gemstone caverns with a living gem - the Crystal Onix by Martina Pilcerova! Next update coming soon.

Awesome artwork!

Another excellent batch of cards, especially loved the giant rattata! It was also fun to watch first the original mtg card and try to figure what pokemon it might have inspired, pheromosa was an easy one

Can’t believe I’m just finding this thread now. Never been a huge fan of MtG, nothing against it, just not my thing. But wow, what a collection of amazing, unique artwork!! Kudos to you for coming up with a cool idea combining MtG and Pokemon and pursuing this.

Haha, Pheremosa always had a queenly arrogant attitude to me, so it seemed a natural fit for Elesh Norn.

I’ve been at Gencon getting a bunch of commissions, which I hope to post soon. In the meantime, here’s a few more:

Lotus Cobra which gets landfall triggers. Before you guess, it’s not Arbok lol.

Christopher Burdett has a more ‘realistic Pokemon’ style and is also a big PoGo fan! He told me that he was really excited to work on these, and even made a series of cute seahorses called ‘My Little Hippocamps’ after working on mine

These two are not direct commissions by me, but were purchased from another collector. Nils Hamm apparently is a Pokemon fan and sometimes draws them of his own will for fun. I like his dark fantasy interpretation!

Well, now we know what caused the Earthquake!

There’s some rumors that Veteran Bodyguard is actually based on George Clooney, so I guess Doug Shuler opted for…handsome Machoke?? :face_with_spiral_eyes:

This one is my favorite of this batch! My agent told me that Jo Cameron is actually a big Pokemon fan, and he really outdid himself with this commission! I love the fierceness and flames of the Ninetales, and he even gave me a shiny Vulpix

I’ve got several in the mail and in the works, so can’t wait to share more with you all!

Here’s a few more that have been trickling in the mail from conventions:

RK Post is a famous MTG artist who has been around for a long, long time. He also loves Pokemon and often sells his own Pokemon-related drawing and tokens! I was really excited to get these from him.

He actually gave me 2 copies of Bronzor Counterspell because he drew one on the wrong card. Necroplasm is meant to hold Grimer, which he did here. Amazing line work!

Avacyn, Angel of Hope is a famous character in MTG as an Angel who eventually turned to the dark side and killed those she was supposed to protect. Maybe she’s looking at Swablu with remorse?

Stoneskin was a fun one because I didn’t tell the artist to add a Honedge, he did it of his own thought! What a nice bonus.

Jade Avenger I got at Gencon, and I thought Chris Seaman did an amazing job turning Poliwrath into a Samurai!

Rite of Flame, a good red ramp card.

Lastly, Village Rites was a fun one to reimagine.

These two are my favorites from this round, but they are all incredible as always!

God I love this thread. Idk why, but the magic cards have always looked so badass. Coupling it with the pokemon cards gives me such comedic relief. I’ll never look at some of the pokemon the same ever again. Bronzor has that “oh boi…” vibe, and some are just straight up awesome. Thank you for sharing as always!

It’s amazing these keep coming and the quality doesn’t drop a bit. All of them are so good that normally i could say any one of them is my favourite, but this time that spot is reserved and naturally the grimer takes my top spot, an incredible piece of art!
