I should probably be packing for my flight tomorrow, but I’ll write one more update for the year. Here’s 5 cards that came in recently:
There’s quite a few in the 151 that can slice and dice, but I decided to pick the plucky hero of TCG Pocket, Farfetch’d! I like Jeremy Wilson’s carefree style.
Teferi is one of MTG’s famous planeswalkers. He often saves the A-team at clutch moments by stopping time. His Time Raveller card is also famous for the oppressive environment it creates for an opponent’s spells. I paired him with Slowpoke and the result is really funny. It’s like Teferi tried to use time magic on Slowpoke but it’s already so slow it’s unaffected.
This is the first of two Alola cards in this update! They’re not required for the 151, but I took a monetary detour with Cabal Coffers, an often used card in black, for its ability to massively ramp up mana production. The art shows a sinister looking vault filled with treasure, so I paired it with Alolan Meowth.
Rishadan Port used to be an important card for controlling the tempo of opponents’ lands. The port itself is known for pirates and ruffians. The central building reminded me of an Exeggcutor, and I imagine it might be tropical. Jerry went further on the idea by having Exeggcutor smash the building, lol.
Fblthp is actually a quite beloved character in the MTG artist proof community, and there are some collectors who only collect cards with him. He has spawned many derivative cards since his first appearance in Totally Lost. I decided to pair him with a Pokemon his own size who also has only one eye. I love how David Palumbo made Fblthp buff, like he’s using a pullup bar. The metallic effect on Magnemite is also well done for a tiny card.
That will be it for me for now. I wish you all happy holidays, and I hope you get the cards you want for Christmas! I’m looking forward to showing you all the complete 151 binder next year!
