I think you meant the black Label BGS-10? First one was bought for little over 10k USD, but now there are more than 150 black label BGS-10s of these shiny Charizards graded (pretty insane). I haven’t checked prices, but I assume it’s worth around 1.75-2.5k right now.
I don’t keep up with prices too much, but one that springs to mind is the Pikachu Pokémon with YOU Wagon promo. It was released and given to kids in 2014 after the earthquake/tsunami (some information about that can be found here). I started collecting Pikachu cards mid-2015, and I haven’t seen a single one of these for sale for years, until at the start of 2017 one popped up on Yahoo Japan for bidding. I was one of the bidders (although lost this one) and it ended at a whopping 135,000 Japanese Yen (~1,175 USD). Right after that one sold, another one popped up for 95,000 JapYen buyout, which was sold immediately. Then another one for bidding, for which I bid a maximum of 77,777 JapYen personally. Within a week, more and more popped up, even for roughly 60-65k JapYen buyout at the end of the week - unfortunately I couldn’t cancel my bid anymore, so I ended up winning that third one for 77,000 JapYen (including middleman, shipping, and import fees I paid ~925 USD). But, after a couple of months, they started to stabilize at around 250-325 USD and were also widely available on eBay, and even now they are around 175-250 USD (I even see a lightly played one for 120 USD on eBay right now). So yeah, that one dropped quite substantially from that initial 1.2k USD sale at the start of 2017, and is apparently still slightly dropping in price due to the now higher supply than demand (unlike the 0 supply in 2015-2016).
Oh, you’re indeed right. I also see some for bidding right now that are at 5.1k and 9.1k respectively. I wasn’t expecting that. I guess the general price increase of cards due to this pandemic hugely affected this popular shiny Charizard as well… Pretty insane to think the POP-1 card sold for 10k, and now the POP-150+ card again sells for 10k.
Are you sure about that? That card got relisted and is at very high thousands again when the copies end of June sold for around 2-3 k. Another auction is around 4k, still no 10 k sale as far as I can see though.
There’s another one with bids (same one I think) already at $9000, and a second one with bids currently at $5000 - I don’t see a buy it now on eBay less than $9000. I think it’s safe to say the days of them selling for $3500 are over for awhile. Shill bid or not, it looks like it had a strong effect on the market.
In terms of margins, the biggest % losses are likely cards that were used competitively in the TCG and then rotated out of format. For example, I paid around $15 for reverse holo Pokemon Collectors back in the day, dropped to like $1 after being rotated out. Oddly enough probably back to its original price now haha.
This is most definitely correct. I remember selling loads of playsets of vs seeker in the low $30 range down through the $20’s, and now they are currently close to $3. Full art shaymin north of $50 and currently $13. There would be dozens of similar examples if not over a hundred from the past 5 years for sure just due to meta changes.
I think the more interesting question is what cards will drop in the next 5 years?
Trading card collecting in general has never been more popular than it is right now. I want to see what will happen to modern (XY-SWSH) or if people will leave these markets.
