Minor Silvering - How severe is it for Grading?

No picture, because I’m not with the card in question atm, but I’m planning on sending in a card that looks absolutely flawless besides very minor silvering (~4-5 veery minor specks of silvering on the edges) - How severe is this when going for a 10? Will it have absolutely no chance of getting a PSA 10, or does it still have a decent shot?

I’d also like to know this if anyone has some more experience with it. I sent in a Light Arcanine and Light Dragonite that had SIGNIFICANT silvering around the front of the cards. All the other parts of both cards looked flawless. For the dragonite it wasn’t as bad, so I thought it’d get a 9. Much worse silvering on the Light Arcanine, I’d guess 60-70% of the front edges. They both came back 10s :face_with_spiral_eyes:

They tend to dock me for silvering, I sent tons of jungle no symbols with only silvering on the cards and over 90% came back 9s. This was awhile ago though.

It depends on the appeal of the rest of the card. Centering, surface, corners, and rear edges… The cumulative minute details are what allow the grader to calculate a grade, and thereafter it’s up to the grader to use his/her best judgment. Edge silvering is known to go either way. Some graders scrutinize and place greater value on front edge condition more than others.

So the answer is, it may get a 10 or may not.

In my experience silvering doesn’t stop a card from getting a gem 10 grade,

Just the rest of the card needs to be flawless and not extreme silvering of course!

If the rest of the card deserves a 10 it should get a 10.
If it’s borderline it’ll probably be the tiebreaker.

Is this by any chance a fossil card? If the rest of the card is fine it will be a 10. The standard specifically states the flaw can’t take away from the overall appeal of the card so a tiny bit of silvering doesn’t do that in my opinion

I know this thread was years ago, however still relevant. I have many 1st editions from jungle and fossil holos with quite extensive silvering around the edges of the cards. How would you condition a card that has “silvering” on all four sides but in good shape overall?

Some people said they weren’t getting docked for it but that hasn’t been my own experience. Silvering is usually viewed as edgewear and you will be docked for it. (Unrelated, I feel like collectors are more picky about it nowadays too. I have a hard time selling cards with it.)
