Has anyone recently submitted and received Jungle, Fossil or even other adjacent set Holos, unlimited or 1st editions? I’m trying to gauge PSA’s current attitude towards the factory issues some cards have like silvering edges, or a tougher cut along one edge due to blades that were probably more dull than they should’ve been…
Any recent experience? Interested to hear about it or see the cards, what grades they got, opinions etc. Thanks!
I’ll find out the answer to this question soon enough, as I opened 3 1st edition Jungle and 2 1st edition Fossil booster boxes a couple of years ago. Put the cards straight into sleeves / card savers / storage and will finally get them graded in a few weeks.
The silvering issues on all the Jungle boxes I opened, and to a lesser extent the Fossil booster boxes, were absolutely ridiculous. I’m expecting to get 9s on the vast majority of them for that reason (not to mention other issues besides silvering… a Vaporeon that otherwise would have been perfect has a stupid ink dot right on the holofoil. Ugh).
Looking at the PSA 10 1st edition Jungle / Fossil holos I already own, they tend to have just a *slight* about of silvering. Only 1 or 2 of them had what I would call “notable” silvering (which the vast majority of cards I pulled from my Jungle boxes had). So it seems to be the case that it’s definitely *possible* to get a 10 even with notable silvering, but it makes it so that everything else about the card has to be that much more perfect in order to reach PSA’s standards for a 10 (and no doubt there’s some subjectivity at play with the individual that is grading your cards, but that’s always the case).
Thanks guys, here’s a link to one of the cards I’m considering sending in. Let me know what you guys think, I don’t have much hope for anything better than a 9 if they ding the card for the factory rough edge and silvering…
Assuming everything else is fine on the card (centering and whitening) that silver on the upper left will be negligible. I’ve seen 10s with much worse silvering. I would be more concerned about the edge wear on the back on the top and left than the silvering.
The silvering would be fine most likely, but that cut is bad and its pretty obvious on the back. Sent some fossil cards in with the same type of dull cut, they didn’t get 10s.
