To what extent does silvering hurt psa grading? I have a mint 1st edition jungle set, aside from of course, the silvering issues which plague this set. Anyone with experience grading jungle cards with fair amounts of silvering? Thank you.
I have a lot of experience with this.
I opened up 3 1st edition Jungle booster boxes. All of my boxes had major slivering issues.
Of the 36 heavy packs I opened myself, I got a PSA 10 on only 3 out of 36 holos.
I also own a complete set of PSA 10 1st ed Jungle holos that I purchased separately. On average, these PSA 10s have much less slivering than the ones I opened myself. However, there is still slight to moderate slivering even on the PSA 10s.
This is the most significant thing to know: Some silvering won’t automatically disqualify your card from being a PSA 10. HOWEVER, if there’s anything above trace amounts of silvering, then nearly everything else about the card needs to be pretty perfect. If you have the rare Jungle holo with no silvering issues, then the card may have slightly more leeway in getting a PSA 10.
In short, the amount of silvering on the card is considered in its grade, but the presence of some silvering by itself won’t necessarily disqualify a the card from being a PSA 10.
I hope that helps.
Thank you! Much appreciated. Stay safe.
