Cross Grading Beckett to PSA

I found a few cards I was thinking about purchasing to have Cross Graded but I am not familiar with the process and was wondering if anyone with experience could help me out.

Here are the details:

Card Grade: 9.5 GEM MINT
Centering: 9.5
Edges: 9.5
Corners: 10
Surface: 9

Second Card

Card Grade: 9.5 GEM MINT
Centering: 9.5
Edges: 9
Corners: 9.5
Surface: 9.5

What do you think the changes are for a crossover PSA 10 Grade? The cards from pictures look flawless, as far as I can see for edge wearand corner wear I see none.

Obviously the only way to actually know would be to send them in and see for yourself. I can’t tell you much without actually seeing them but I’d guess that the first one has a respectable shot at a PSA 10 if it has 10 on the corners. It depends on what marked it down to a 9 surface. I’d imagine the second card wouldn’t have a great chance with 9 edges though.

PSAs standards are such that even the slightest edge wear will be enough to knock down the grade from a 10 to a 9. They can be a little more lenient on corners if there is only a trace of white on one corner but even this is somewhat rare.

Thanks everyone, I am new to cross grading and grading in general, just wanted to get your thoughts.

I’ve done maybe 4-5 dozen cross grades in the last year and I believe 5 crossed from BGS 9.5 to PSA 10. Not great odds. I guess that’s why BGS 9.5s are normally much cheaper.

What were the sub grades?

I’ve heard you only got a good shot at cross-grading to PSA10 if you have BGS9.5 with Corners and Surface on 10.

Not quite. I’ve paid close attention for obvious reasons and for sure, there was no trend like that. Almost the opposite;)

Oh wow. And I always thought BGS was so damn strict on centering with a smaller margin than PSA.

Does this mean that a pack fresh card with factory silvering has no chance of PSA 10 either?

Front edge sparkle shouldn’t affect the grade unless it’s already borderline between grades then it could be a determinant.

This is true though I would add that it is relative to the severity of the damage as well. Jungle Fossil and Neo Destiny (non-shinings) are the most common of having severe front edge defect. Jungle cards in particular can be so bad as to degrade a card from a 10 down to an 8. They can be so bad that they look like a hacksaw blade on the edge. But usually a few or even several tiny sparkles of silver won’t significantly effect the grade by itself.

Of course if the edge cut is like a hacksaw got to it then it’s more of a problem. If there’s minor sparkle along one or two edges, it’s not considered wear or damage so it’s inconsequential to the grade.

I’m just saying there can be varying degrees of silvering damage, not saying you’re wrong. Some people different interpretations of what silvering damage can be

It’s not right or wrong nor does it have anything to do with me. I’m simply stating the grading parameters. There are waaaaay more (probably 99%) PSA 10 base holos with at least some edge sparkle.
