Lower grade 1st ed or higher grade shadowless

Collect what you like. For me its 1st ed base is the pinnacle of the collecting hobby. In my life stage, 10s are not financially sound; this is a hobby for me, not an investment vehicle. Which is why I stick to 9s and 8s as they are still in great minty condition.

I would think that the lower 1st edition are better than higher grades of shadowless

Good point, I’d definitely prefer the shadowless colours over unlimited colours but with the stamp. but that thankfully that’s not the case and having both is the perfect combination for me.

I would much rather have a psa/cgc/bgs 7 shadowless Zard than a 1st ed graded a 1 although I wouldn’t say the same for anything else in the 1st ed set (where prices are still reasonable).

Sick of all these new accounts trolling. Collecting is all about opinion. Nobody should be criticised for wanting to collect one set over another.

Shadowless cards were the first thing I collected when re-entering the hobby, so for me, if I had to pick between selling my shadowless Zard or 1st Ed Zard, the 1st Ed Zard would be first to go.

Condition is important. I personally don’t want anything below a psa 7 in my collection, definitely nothing with a visible crease that detracts from the visual appeal of the card.
