I thought I would post on here since I was wondering whether anyone else has had this experience.
Around mid October 2022 I sold a PSA 9 Umbreon Holo from the Skyridge set to the USA from the UK via eBay GSP. No problems shipping to the UK’s distribution centre. They confirmed arrival and shipped to USA, so no longer my problem.
About a month and half later I get a message from the buyer reporting they never received it, I respond saying ‘sorry I can’t help, they’ll have to open a case with eBay.’ Case is opened and investigated, buyer gets a refund and I keep the money paid for the Umbreon, all gets resolved.
Now recently I had graded some cards and decided to add them to the set registry and checked the cert of the Umbreon I sold… I find out its been sold again (January 2023). Now the account of this seller is different to my buyer, in some way I am glad the card wasn’t ‘lost’ for all eternity but whether it was conveniently ‘lost’ I can’t be for certain.
This whole thing raised a question in my mind; if I found out a card I had bought was stolen what would I do?
Would be people want to know what the cert number is to avoid it in the future?
I’m always unsure what to think in these cases. There was a case several months ago where someone lost a HUGE part of their collection in shipping, and it showed up again having been sold by the carrier’s lost shipments dept. and pieced to various businesses/buyers. It’s hard to know who to blame, and nothing illegal was done, IFF it’s truly lost mail.
SO, was your card intentionally ‘lost’ or was it genuinely lost? Hard to know, and there’s little incentive for anyone to give more information or do investigation, beyond curiosity.
I don’t agree with stealing cards obviously, but how dumb does one have to be to keep the card in the same slab with the same cert number and try selling it.
