That’s the Cyndaquil @augustdifirenze listed above but with an inflated price. That seller is someone referred to as a “dropshipper” - they take other people’s listings and try to sell them for a higher price, profiting on the difference between the original price and the inflated price.
The original Cyndaquil listing is 44,444 JPY for example, which is ~$393, whereas this eBay listing is $562 - $169 higher.
Lol, that’s a pretty genius way of trying to make some cash. I guess it wouldn’t work if the item was sold by the original person but then you could always just refund money.
The dropshipper actually has it listed twice. Once for an even higher price and this second “sale.”
Well hot darn, the ebay guy even stole the mercari listing pictures. Which I guess makes sense since he doesn’t own the card.
You’ve opened my eyes. I’m seeing so many obviously fraudulent listings for Japanese singles where they obviously don’t have the card and are trying to “arbitrage.” I assume it’s against ebay TOS to sell something that isn’t in your possession.
I think this actually happened to me with a torchic gold star unlimited card. I hit the buy it now, and a few days later got a message saying the card “magically sold” right before I bought it. He originally didn’t want to refund my money but wanted me to buy a different card. I told him no and got my money back.
Just watched this slip from my hands I would assume a member here spotted it to!
I am definitely happy to see more pop up though! Hoping for an easy buy it now one day
It was I! This was the first one for this Totodile art that I won out of 3 I didn’t get to in time in the past 2 years. But it does seem like more and more are showing up lately. I haven’t seen any more info in descriptions about where they come from though. Hoping somebody selling one will have more info on them.
Congrats on the pick up! I think that the increase in sales just comes from an increase in awareness. Idk about any japanese communities but it could’ve leaked into the mainstream collecting sphere there and people started sifting through their bulk. That or some nutcase just dumped them, but i think one of us wouldve spotted it aha
Super pleased and shocked to have found these in Mandarake Nagoya today!
It sure isn’t the snap Magikarp that popped in an Bookoff some 10 km away, but still something I did not expect to find at a reasonable price in a shop!
Only other one I ever saw was in a Hobby station in Tokyo, but the Cyndaquil was priced at 80 000 yens…
This seller has sold a lot of really interesting Pokémon items in the past including a couple of other unlimited E1 cards. I don’t know if they meant to start it off at 20,000 JPY as they listed a Pichu a few days ago starting at 200,000 JPY: page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g1032453447.
